Bruny Island Cruises provides unique coastal wilderness experiences on Bruny Island, just 90 minutes south of Hobart. The cruise was awarded as Australia’s Best Tourist Attraction for 2012 and has won Tasmania’s Best Tourist Attraction in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012.
Cruise alongside some of Australia’s highest sea cliffs, beneath towering crags and drift up close to listen to the awesome ‘Breathing Rock’. Enter deep sea caves, pass through the narrow gap between the coast and ‘The Monument’, a tall slender stack – and feel the power of nature at the point where the Tasman Sea meets the might of the Southern Ocean. Join in the search for abundant sea and coastal wildlife such as seals, dolphins, whales and sea birds.
The highly-trained interpretive guides love what they do – they work hard to ensure that the experience of all of their guests is fun, enjoyable, entertaining and informative.
The custom built yellow boats are ideal for viewing the spectacular coastline and wildlife of Bruny Island. Covered open-air tiered seating means an excellent all-round view and connection with the environment. Nicknamed the ‘4WD’s of the sea’ for their unequalled sea-keeping abilities these boats are safe, comfortable and gentle on the environment due to their fuel efficiency, low emission and quiet operation.
Where is Bruny Island?
Bruny Island lies off the south east coast of Tasmania, some 25 kilometers south of Hobart. It is linked to mainland Tasmania by the vehicular ferry Mirambeena.
The island is an un spoilt haven with spectacular scenery and a landscape which varies from pasture to rainforest. It has glorious miles of sandy beaches and rugged cliffs. North and South Bruny are joined by a narrow isthmus, "The Neck", which is home to a colony of fairy penguins.
If you have your own car you can join us in Adventure Bay for the 3 Hour Wilderness Cruise. We also have the option of a Kettering Pickup, or the Full Day Tour from Hobart..
At first this seemed expensive but it was a fantastic experience. They look after their customers really well and try to make the trip as interesting as possible. Our guys went out of their way to find a whale for us and they did!
The scenery on the 3-hour Bruny Island Cruise was spectacular, although we did have a lovely, clear sunny day. If it was raining the views wouldn't be as good but the staff would do their best to make you feel it was a worthwhile day.
You can buy your morning tea and lunch at the base in Adventure Bay, and it looked like reasonable value. We took our own food and they didn't mind.
You won't need to take much with you on the boat. They supply everything, including the seasickness tablets.
A waterproof camera would be a good idea.
Incidentally, if you plan to see much of Bruny Island while you are there, stay over for at least one night. You can't see much in half a day and still make it back to the ferry in time.
