2 reviews about Petit Four Espresso Bar

Came here for high tea (bought a groupon $30 for 2 people which seems to be very good value). This place is very simple, plastic tables and chairs reminiscent of any food court. No fancy teapots or cups either, and whilst there was a nice selection of fancy sounding tea, it was essentially a teabag in an average looking mug. So if you want a high tea experience, this is not the place to come. The food was served on a 2 tier platter, the top sweet and bottom savory. The savory ones included mini quiche, a sort of samosa, salmon toast and finger sandwiches. The top tier contained scones (which appeared a bit burnt), cupcakes, macaroons and two other sweet treats. Overall the quality of the food was very average. Even at $15 pp with the groupon I would not consider this great value and it was definitely not a high tea experience.

My husband and I went to this cafe/bar on the weekend. A while ago I bought a discount voucher, and then last week when I went looking for the address details I came across a massive bunch of reviews basically saying this was the worst place in the whole world. Pretty much noone had anything nice to say about it. We discussed just not bothering, because it was a bit of a hassle with the voucher expiring and being busy, but events transpired that we were in the city so we decided to give it a go.
All I can say is, sometimes you really need to give things a go yourself and ignore everyone else. We absolutely enjoyed every mouthful we consumed and could not have been happier with the experience. Mostly, we were stoked we decided to head on in and give it a try (too money conscious to "waste" the voucher I am afraid) because otherwise we really would have missed out.
They don't seem to do big meals or anything, just a variety of drinks, chocolates, macarons, slices and cakes and ribbon sandwiches.
It isn't its own enclosed cafe to sit and snuggle or anything like that, a very open type space that faces into the shopping area, but if that isn't a problem, you will likely enjoy it.
The staff member we engaged with was friendly and helpful to a fault, did not complain about the voucher or get upset when I changed my mind on my order. She smiled constantly and worked busily preparing our food and dealing with other customers for the duration we were there.
Granted we were there early, about 9:30am on a Sunday, but at that stage the food was fresh and very well presented.
I don't know that I would buy a heck of a lot without a discount voucher, as their products are relatively expensive, but for a city venue I think this is always to be expected. You can grab a mint hot chocolate (seriously, is there anything better??) for $5.50, which to me is fairly decent for the location.
Ultimately, we left planning when we would next go back to try out some other tasty treats.
