We had been to lunch at Jamie's Italian and being that it was only a short walk from there to the Torrens River, we decided to take a ride on the "Popeye". The Popeye departs daily, every hour, on the hour, weather permitting. The forty minute round trip cruise offers commentary highlighting the many landmarks and points of interest. The gentleman driving it on the day we were there, was very knowledgeable and told us things we didn't even know about our own state! Learn new things every day. From Elder Park, it travels west to the Torrens Weir, turns around and travels back up to the Adelaide Zoo before returning to the landing. It was a very relaxing ride and brought back many memories of my childhood. It's costs $15 for an Adult return trip and $8 for under 16's. There are 3 vessels and are available for private hire too - weddings, birthdays, corporate events etc. Highly recommend for "Adelaidians" and Visitors alike. Approximate cost: $15

You can not go to the Adelaide zoo without catching the Popeye there. It is a shame if you do as you will be missing out on the true Adelaide zoo experience. (The two go hand in hand.) I have always enjoyed catching the Popeye, ever since I was a little kid. I have always found that the service and staff on the Popeye have always been extremely friendly and recommend it to a lot of people as one of those must do things when visiting Adelaide. Sydney and Brisbane have ferries, Melbourne has a multitude of tram services, but Adelaide has the Popeye! (Not the most extravagant transport service in Australia, but definitely a genuine Adelaide experience nevertheless.)

Excellent Family Fun.
My girls love the Popeye!!
Ok granted it is just an open boat type thing that chugs along the not always pristine River Torrens....but it is fun.

A trip to South Australia is not complete without a trip on the historic state icon!
It is a great part of a city picnic and/ or a great way to travel to or from the Zoo.

Departs daily (weather permitting) and a return trip takes 40 minutes.
A round trip is $12 for adults and $6 for kids.
