The prospect of an interview let alone a job as a recent graduate seemed too good to be true. Proforce came along and it definitely remained too good to be true.

I received a phone call from Stephanie on the 31/1 saying I was successful for an interview and I was to attend it on the 01/02, as the team were flying down from Sydney that day and only interview in Melbourne every so often.

I attended the interview, or should I say all day workshop of about 25-30 fellow graduates, which included a self introduction in front of a room of at least 40 people (board / proforce members), 2 group activities, which were reminiscent of high school retreats, then a 3 minute pitch in front of people who really didn’t seem to look like they were interested in anything you had to say, then finally a one on one interview with a proforce staff member.

After all these shenanigans and being reminded another 30 times that they like to work FAST, we were then rounded back up into the room where we were then told we would find out on the same day if we were successful or not.

Approximately 13 people’s names were called (mine included) where we were then herded into another room. This is when we were told we were the successful candidates and they kept spitting out their ‘brag’ story of how we out of 5000-7000 weekly applicants made it through to be taken under the proforce wing! Huzzah!

A proforce worker told us that they are a company that likes to move FAST, so we should receive a call / email the Monday (4/02) regarding our success and should be off interviewing our little hearts out within the same week - yay potential jobs!

I never received that call or email, so I emailed Stephanie back on the 9/02 asking about when I was to hear back from them. All I received on 11/02 was a stale reply: Hi ...
Hope you’re well.
Thank you for the email, I will forward it across to the account managers.

It is now 20/02 and I’ve still not received anything! Talk about fast.

I wouldn’t rely on this company at all, they talk about working fast and achieving results, but I’m more than sure there are recruiting companies out there that will actually assist you in finding work.

ProGrad specialise in Graduate recruitment and have some strict selection criteria, however they do push all graduates to take B2B Sales roles, even though a lot of candidates are looking for work in the field of Marketing, Media, Advertising. The process is a bit misleading and it does often feel that they are simply trying to push for a sale. However, even if you just go along to learn about interview techniques, it is worthwhile!
