Well I have only visited this place once, as if I had not pre looked up good steak places, I would never ever have noticed it. It is tucked right next to Another well known steak place, the ball and chain and the Rockwall just does not stand out - we drove past it a couple of times.
Anyway I will admit that we did attend this restuarant early - we were there at 5:30 and the only people there. The place is simply BEAUTIFUL. Lovely low lighting and the rockwall itself is very grand looking. You could certainly dress up a little for fun and fit in, although smart casual fits in too.
As we were the only ones there, we felt we did receive silver service. We attended on a Thursday and called around lunchtime to book and after 6 they were completely booked out so make sure you call well in advance.
The entree of salt and pepper calamari was the best my partner has ever had and I do not usually like seafood but even I was able to eat and enjoy this. I just ordered the bread with the vinagrette oil which was pretty average although the bread was warm and crusty.
Of course we both ordered steaks - my partner the large 500g and me the normal order. He ordered medium-rare and myself medium and they both came out 100% perfect. THe flavour was exquisite and we both kept grinning at each other as the flavours were wonderful. Although I have read reviews where the steaks weren't right, I do beieve this comes down to how busy they are, but for us early in the night, they were perfect. My partner had the ferrer roche' icecream which came with a shot of frangelico and it looked so delicious and tasted really good. Loved the frangelico shot which we half poured over the dessert and i slowly sipped the rest, hehe! Definately am interested to see how they go on a saturday, but definately worth a visit!!!

I've visited Rockwall twice and have thoroughly enjoyed both meals.
The first time I got the Citrus Crispy Duck which was just heaven and no duck meals I've had since have ever come close.
The second time I had two entrées, the Tasmanian Rock Lobster Paté and Seafood Chowder (both things I'd never tried before) and fell in love straight away.
Can't wait to go back next time I visit Tasmania.
The food is worth every cent!!

Tricky. My first experience here was delightful! Tasty food cooked well, albeit expensive, and I couldn't wait to go back. Second visit was a disappointment. We were told if were told if we didnt order an appitiser or bread we would have to wait 40 mins for our mains. We got our steaks an hour later. Mine was blue to the point where it could almost walk off the table. After finally hailing a waitress & another 20mins wait, I finally received the same piece of steak & same vegetables back. The steak was rubber & vegetables cold but after 2 hours in the restaurant I ate it hurriedly. Next came the fondant...tipped upsidedown & oozing out all over the plate. We left.

despite xmas pressure our experience was superb. friendly welcome and knowledgable waiting staff. my seafood chowder was up there with the best ever and my wifes crayfish pate proved devine. my wife chose the crispy duck as her main course and i chose a pork dish. we had asked for a longish gap between courses and thank goodness we did as during this wait i saw and enquired about the special ribeye on the bone steaks from cape grim. i asked to change my order and this request was accepted with no raised eybrows or sighs. this steak was probably he best steak i had ever eaten. the restaurant is family run and really does deserve its success. we will be back!

This is a nice little restaurant in salamanca I had the beer battered fish and chips and enjoyed a cocktail as well, food was nice but could have been a bit better, I think the fish could have been better too. overall it was a good dining experience. value wise its a little on the expensive side.

I AM NOT SURE HOW ONE CAN SAY THE FISH COULD BE FRESHER? ONCE IT IS COOKED HOW CAN ONE TELL? MOST FISH SUPPLIED TO RESTAURANTS HAS BEEN CAUGHT AT SEA AND ISNT ABSOLUTELY FRESH. WHAT DOES "NICER" MEAN? THIS IS JUST SUBJECTIVE GOBBLE-DE-GOOK.JOHAN BEE

We went to Rockwall for dinner to celebrate my birthday earlier in the week and loved the ambience of the restaurant. It was busy but the layout of the tables on split levels meant that you still had your space and could talk without having to talk over the surrounding diners.

We shared the lobster pate and natural oysters for an entree and they were both fabulous. For mains we had duck and a beef rib eye special both of which were magnificent and generous servings. They gave us excellent steak knives too which if often lacking!

The wine list was a great mix of local and mainland wines with a few o/s thrown in and the pricing of the wines were good.

The service was efficient and friendly and it was a memorable night.

Last night my wife and I dined at Rockwall to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the night was nothing short of fantastic.

From the moment I received a lightning fast confirmation of my email booking (I had a response within 30 mins of an email sent at about 9am), they off to a great start.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff and who showed us to our table (and offered us a choice of where to sit). The two waitresses that were servicing our table were bubbly, friendly and attentive without being too smothering or "in your face"

The food was fantastic, the Rock Lobster Pate for an entree was amazing, and my wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed our mains (which were of a generous serving, unlike some restaurants where you have to hunt around the plate looking for the food).

When it came time for dessert, I was unable to decide between a couple of items on the menu so I asked our waitress to surprise me with one of the two desserts I was torn between. She chose the chocolate pudding for me and I must say she made an outstanding choice (though I'm sure the Turkish Delight Panna Cotta would have been equally exceptional).

All told, we had a fantastic evening and would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic unpretentious meal in Hobart.

Approximate cost: $25-35
