A busy and bustling place well known for there delicious dumplings which are reliably good.
Pick of the menu would definitely be the pan fried Melbourne dumpling and famous fish mackerel boiled dumplings - generous portion, value for money and delicious!

Really busy place and small as well. So best that you try to go early or later as it is really worth it. Must try items are the Melbourne dumplings and pan fried fish dumplings. These are not cheap and nasty dumplings and the price reflects the quality. So do not walk in thinking it is Camy dumplings price range. The service as usual.. Chinese places what can you say? I'm used to it but i guess it would rub others the wrong way.

Approximate cost: $14

When you think of a dumpling joint in Melbourne, think greasy, cheap, noisy, menus that don't really make sense in English and tables that stink of the wash cloth that has not been washed very often.

You'll be glad to know that Shandong Mama is pretty much the opposite.

They have smattering of dumpling dishes, both boiled and fried as well as the typical rice and noodle dishes. What makes Shandong Mama different though is how well balanced the dishes are. I typically order the boiled mackerel dumplings but make sure to ask for the garlic chilli sauce as it really compliments the dish. The beef dumplings are quite different, it's not completely wrapped up like you would expect but still very moist and juicy. The stir fried beef or chicken noodles is also popular with my kids.

Hands down one of my favourite casual dumpling eateries in Melbourne. Sitting in the sweet spot between the expensive venues, and cheap chinatown institutions, Shangdong Mama offers comfortable surrounds, a friendly and casual atmosphere, and good quality food.
I love their range of dumplings with interesting house exclusive ones like the open mackerel. The dumplings are filled wth chunky ingredients, bursting with flavour and juice. Apart from dumplings, the menu is supplemented with interesting dishes like spring onion pancake and mapo tofu. These dishes are not an after thought - they are just as good as the dumpling dishes.
I really really like Shandong Mama. Have always had very good experiences, food and service wise.
It is really great to not have to deal with stressed waiters and hair in your food, or conversely a big credit bill!

A little Chinese dumplings restaurant with down-to-eartch settings. Staff are polite and accommodating. The food is exceptionally flavoursome and delicate, and there are some very unique tasting dishes. The only criticism is that the steamed dumpling skins tend to be too large for the amount of filling. We had 4 dishes shared between 3 people at a cost $13.50 per person, including an onion pancake dish, noodles with sesame sauce, and a total of 21 dumplings.
