I was excited to find a salon near my home but was VERY disappointed with the service and the end result. I had highlights and a cut. The 'half head' I asked for was actually just a couple of foils on both sides and few on top - it was more like a T section (with very few foils). The colour started half an inch of the root of the hair so immediately after the appointment it looked like I had growth. I also bought a spray, which I ended up throwing away as it seemed it was a very old product with broken nozzle, and didn't do what it promised to my hair. I will never go back, and I'm in a search for a better local hairdresser.

Very disappointed in my experience here. Let me say the staff was exceptionally friendly, but I was not happy with the service I received. I called specifically to ask if they used the keratin straightening treatment brand I have used before at other salons and had success with. When I made the appointment, they confirmed yes, they used that product. When I arrived at the salon, I was informed they have not been able to use that product for some months now (reasons out of their control), and they were going to use a new one for the straightening treatment. Long story short (and 250 dollars later), the product did not work and my hair was the same as before I entered the salon. I would have appreciated being told when I called to make the appointment - rather than being informed once I had already made the trip there and was sitting in the salon chair. I would have gone somewhere else had I known, and instead I was forced to make the choice when I had already taken the time to come in for the appointment and it was too late to book another appointment elsewhere in time. It seems like most reviewers like this salon -which is part of the reason I decided to give it a try. I was disappointed in regarding their products when I called, and the fact they are using an another product that doesn't give desired results. They should stop offering the treatment until they can find a new product that meets their standards.

I'm a guy and I've been going to Shine Hairdressers in Kensington for ages, and I can tell you that they have always given me a great cut and have taken a lot of time to consider what would look best for my face, and not just do the standard short back and sides that you get at a barber (you know, like the barbers that could pick up the clippers in a shearing shed and fleece a flock, no questions asked) and not once in all that time have they ever been distracted, or sub standard, or unreasonably priced. That guy below (badhair87), if he wants the barber shop, cookie cutter hair style and price, (like it's still the 1950s), he need only walk up the road and go somewhere else. Makes me wonder how he ever happened upon Shine in the first place. Sounds like he has his hair all sorted with a regular barber he goes to, for that house detective look I used to settle for, before Shine started showing me the alternatives. I can tell you I look much better now. My wife goes there too, and you'd swear she was a natural blonde, except for the fact that she behaves more like a brunette... no offence intended. Anyway that's all I have to say for what it's worth. Thanks Shine and mate, Mr Badhair87 hair grows out again, but a bad review when you probably looked much better than you thought, is a rather ordinary thing to do to these lovely ladies, who charge only what their immaculate service is worth (I'd tell you if they have ever been distracted with me, and they haven't and I'm not much to look at, physically, though my wife would disagree with that). Why don't I let her finish this off. I need coffee sweetheart.... You'll have to forgive my husband, he's a bit distraught. I think he loves those Shine girls, more than he loves me. He certainly sits still and listens longer to them, than he does for me. I think that speaks volumes for the salon, don't you? How many stars are we giving it M_Aurelius? He said all of them. There you have it. Molly and M_Aurelius say Shine gets ALL the stars! Cheers. :-)

I've been going to Shine Hair Salon for over 10 yrs now & have tried different hair salons due to work travel and none come to comparison. What I love about this place is the warm, friendly, fun & inviting atmosphere. The ladies that work there are perfectionists with their work, making you feel like a glam model when their finished with you. It's a one stop pamper shop, having a perfect hairdo, spray tan & then I have a make over with the 'Shemsu mineral make up' range, which I conveniently purchase from there also & that's not all, as you walk thru the back of the shop there is a mind body spirit centre, where I get a Tarot reading or other service I choose while I'm waiting for my colour to process. I'm telling you this is pamper city for me and others. Everyone that works there is like a family and have treated me and other customers I've seen there, like their close friends. I hope you girls read this! Keep up the good work! You definately deserve this acknowledgement!

A lovely group of girls, you'll be very happy with the service and how friendly they are and how they cut your hair. A bit pricey but worth it. Serve you with delicious ice tea and you'll definately go back.

Just had my hair cut there and was very disappointed (so much so that I registered an account here just so I could write a review). $57 for a wash, conditioning and cut (I'm a guy btw, so that's pretty expensive). Service was unfriendly, the person who cut my hair didn't smile once and was clearly distracted. I think they had another customer waiting on them as she kept looking over at this woman who had some stuff in her hair and was reading a book. They seemed to rush through my haircut, it was uneven and badly styled. Never going back there, I could have gotten a better haircut for $15 down the road in Kingsford. They have a bunch of awards up in their display window, but after having experienced their service, I have no idea how they won them.
