I actually went to Shinka Clarence St today, after months of walking past, being too intimidated to walk in. I made my booking for a digital perm and touch up colour. I found Shinka to be really professional and the staff were absolutely fantastic, really nice. After the first couple of minutes getting my hair trimmed by Sayori (stylist), I was pretty certain that I could trust the stylist with my hair, her cutting technique was very good, and after the perm she took the time to advise how to look after the new curls. You're offered a tea or coffee, staff continuously offer you different magazines when you're almost done reading the one you have (they are attentive) and they do not try to push their products on you. English may not be their first language but it was not a barrier. Really relaxing head massage while my hair was being washed, I thought the price was fair and good for the service you get. You can pay more or equal at other hair salons BUT you will probably not get the care and attention that you will get from Shinka. Would recommend to anyone who needs a new style.
I regularly use Roy the head stylist. He regularly produces hair styles for International Japanese Magazines. I always get my cuts and full-head highlights with him. The quality and level of technique is perfect, and not as overpriced as the more big name stylists and salon groups. It's also on the top level of TGV, and is in a full glass building, so you get to enjoy the view of both TGV and QVB as you get you hair done.
Approximate cost: $60
The Japanese Magazine is not for International, not ever for whole Australia. It is only for Sydney, and because they pay for the advertisment, they can get the good review on the magazine. That means the review or interview on the magazine is not TRUE.
I agree with CecilliaW's comment: the advertising element of this post is obvious. I went to the salon recently because of this review. I was very disappointed. Yes your staff were very nice, polite, BUT they cannot even understand what I was asking!!! they cannot even speak proper English, let alone understanding my requests… I was just being polite and sat through the whole service, although I have to say I do not like the colour you gave me. You have no clue with fine hair, and the colour skills were really bad… the end of the day, you can have polite people, good service, but it is the end result that counts - i.e. "make me look beautiful"… I went to Toni&Guy at world square right after you… I felt my time and money was wasted! :-( u need proper people who can communicate and who have real skills! sorry, but this is my true feeling!
“She made me very pretty on my wedding day. Met my expectations. Lovely lady!”…

My colour service was really amateur…. their service is good, just the technical side is blah!
