10 reviews about Simon's Peiking Duck

The place is very cramp as owner is putting many tables into the space. If you have a baby pram, you don't have space to open. It's also very noisy where you can hardly hear your mates speak. They will chase you out of the place within 1hr for the next group.

Having said, the food is nice and price is reasonable.

Simons duck is delicious and booking is required. His ducks àre lightly roasted in recent years but they still taste great. Some customers do ask for duck carcass (given free if asked) to make homemade duck soup.

Approximate cost: $80

i've been here several times and thought it was ok the first time, but slowly grow to like this place. The duck is different from your usual roasted duck of a typical HK restaurant. Service is quick, staffs is very friendly. Only down side is you have to book in advance to have a chance of getting in. Strongly recommend to anyone who wants a change of taste.
Word of advice: order only the duck, the other dishes in the menu are not good.

Great peking duck here! The pancakes were thin, the duck is crisp as it should be.
Simon brings out your duck pancakes and does a bit of a show at the side of your table. I do not think $65/55 per duck is expensive per previous reviews. You do get 3 dishes out of this and unlimited soup. We had 5 people and had 2 ducks between us. Divide that cost between each person, how is that expensive?

I also had salted egg yolk fried chicken the last visit but I think their duck is the draw card and will stick to that next time.

A little bit pricey at $65 per duck with noodles BUT Simon still maintains the high standard of his ducks and service was never an issue here. The place was full for both his 6pm and 8pm sittings while the neighbouring restaurants were empty, I think that speaks for itself really.

So far have not been tempted to try the other fare available but the duck + noodle + soup course is still more than sufficient along with Simon's boisterous and large friendly personality!

We visited this restaurant with friends who insisted we try this place because the chef used to be in another famous Peking Duck restaurant called Old Kingdom in Collingwood.

Unfortunately we found that the service was average and the duck was incredibly oily.

The waiter originally walked around placing a single pancake on our plate and then a slice of cucumber. The duck was bought out and the neck ripped off infront of us and the oil from the duck was going all over the table. They then proceeded to cut slices, however the slices were so laden with oil that the pancake ended up dripping with oil and fat from the skin of the duck. I ended up having to take the skin out and scrape the fat off the skin otherwise it would have been fat overload! Whilst they wore plastic gloves to try and ensure hygiene, it was dissapointing to see them collecting scraps with the same gloves and heading to another table to clear up with no change in gloves. In the end we insisted on cutting the duck ourselves!

Pricing is average value for the quality. At around $70 per duck we needed three ducks for six people.

I recommend if you are after great Peking Duck - head over to Bamboo House - less oil and fat, better service, around the same price for a duck!

Approximate cost: $70

the best part of peking duck is the skin and the fat and come with it.

Booking is essential to eat at this place because they're always busy and I've tried going in without booking on weekends, both times we were turned away. The peking duck is one of the best in Melbourne. The skin is nice and crispy, the meat is so tender and juicy. The sauce is delicious and the pancake is nice and thin.

We arrived at Simon's on a Friday, quite excited as we heard he was back in business. We knew and had tasted his fare at Old Kingdom in Smith St, Collingwood. The restaurant was packed and some who had not made a booking had to be turned away. We had the three courses of duck - peking duck, the stir fry duck with bean shoots and duck soup. Although, not the best atmosphere or value for money the peking duck is worth the occasional treat.
