My dad introduced me to Steven Shippey Automotive and I have been servicing my car there for fifteen years. I have found them to be honest, reliable and very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend them. I have since moved to the other side of town, but I still use them.

I decided to try out Steven after reading the reviews on this website, and I must say that I am rather impressed by their workmanship and their approachable nature. I drove in to the workshop, and the first thing Steven asked me to do is to open the bonnet so that he could check the super loud rattling noise that he can hear while I drove in. That caught me by surprise because I was surprised that he even noticed the sound (then again, if it is loud and I am the only car that just drove in, it is not that hard to figure out). He told me his suspicions and, unlike other mechanics who tend to give me an estimate of an obnoxious amount without even looking at the root of the problem, Steven told me that he will do the servicing first and called me if his suspicions were founded. Indeed, it was something to do with the muffler or whatever it is (my knowledge with cars is pretty bad!) and give me a quote that I find pretty reasonable. In the end, my car got some luvin' it much needed and I can feel the difference after the service. I guess all I'm saying is that I think I've found a mechanic that I can rely on as long as I drive a car =)

I called Steve after reading reviews on this site. Being new to Adelaide and knowing little about cars, I wanted to take my car to someone I could trust. I had actually booked it to the brand name service centre, but a quote for a 120,000 service of almost $900 left me reeling. On calling Steve for a quote he said that a basic service would cost me about $125, and even if more complex service was required it would cost nowhere near the amount quoted by the branded service centre. I took my list of the items that were going to be done there to Steve and he said that he would check all of those things. I left my car at 0830 and received a phone call by 1115 saying it was all done. When I got there Steve explained that all things that would have be done by the SC didn't need doing and that the only thing he found was that the front brakes would need doing at the next service in 10,000k's. I appreciated his explanations and his upfront nature. Of course I need some time to see how the car is performing, but am sure that I won't have any worries and that I'll be returning to Steve in 10,000km's.

The owner seems really straight-up and seems to know his stuff well. They slightly under-charged rather than over-charged, relative to other mechanics. Their actual hourly rate seems about average for mechanics. They spent a lot of time with me trying to find the fault in my car before I booked it in. They actually charged me less than quoted after they found the job was simpler than expected, which they couldn't tell until looking inside it, so i think that indicates honesty (and they were clearly not just making up the first quote). Later when i returned they were very happy to check something that another mechanic said i needed done and told me i didn't need to get it fixed, partly since they had seen inside the car whilst fixing it. They are definitely worth trying if you are looking for an honest knowledgeable mechanic.
