I was spoilt for a celebration dinner at Stokehouse Upstairs. Two words truffle scallops. I really really enjoyed those. The bombe alaska dessert was different but I found it a bit sweet for my liking. This restaurant was full and I was in the later seating, I think it is a pleasant dining environment, not too busy that you cannot hear each other. Good food and wine, staff knew what they were doing.

Approximate cost: $40

There is something wrong. Stokehouse was a nice holiday/seaside retreat with premium australian dining inside a beachhouse on the foreshore. Comme was a superbly chic city restaurant with premium european dining inside an edwardian townhouse as you might find in Knightsbridge. The new Stokehouse City is a mish mash of both, and sits quite uncomfortably. The bold furniture and decor juxtaposes against the elegant traditional architecture. Which the food was reliably good as always was the case (at both restaurants), the new surrounds are not particularly pleasant.
