This place is really different to others and that intrigued me but in the end I didn't really like the idea of having to cook my own food, really nice laid back place though with friendly service!

I tried 'Stones' through buying a discount voucher, for takeaway only. Although they messed up at first by giving my phoned in order to another customer (so had a little wait for food to be ready), the ribs were very tasty and tender. ... and I guess being takeaway, at least I didn't have to cook it myself! :)

I've been to Stones once before and didn't really like. I was recently invited back again for a girlfriends birthday dinner. I wasn't fussed the first time and this time again, whilst a little bit better, I just didn't really enjoy it. I would prefer full table service when I go to dinner so a venue that encourages you to make your own meal, just doesn't click with me. The staff do try and make it special for you and it's a nice venue as such, but I just can't get into it. I don't think I could go back again, but I still give it 3 stars for the venue and staff. The food is of good quality that they give you, it's just the fact you have to cook it. Parking is terrible, it's too busy. I can't justify the cost vs me having to make it.

Oh dear! what was a restaurant thinking, making a customer cook their own meal and then have them pay for it. At first I thought here is something new, a novel idea even but then when I actually experienced it, I felt differently. Worst thing for me is I like my steak well done, I thought I was going to be 80yrs old before I finished, it took a long time too cook. Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere was nice, I was with my friends, but I was cooking my "own meal". Why bother having chef's???? You can't complain if you have a bad meal cause you made it yourself afterall. I might as well have stayed home and made my own dinner, Going out for tea is about enjoyment, having someone wait on you for a change. I cook my own dinner nearly every night of the week as it is, so why would I go out to a nice restaurant and then go cook it myself. It just doesn't sit with me. I'm sorry I just didn't get the point of this restaurant. Cook your meal at home, it's just as good, you save money and petrol.

I agree that this place was a novel idea, I don't think cooking your own meal is worth it. Just my opinion, though.

I like them, I think it's great to cook your own meal.

We dined at Stones this week, using an Our Deal coupon. Service was prompt and friendly, food was really fresh. We enjoyed cooking the steak to our liking and it was a fun evening.

Cooking our selection of steak or fish on heated volcanic stones is an enjoyable dining experience. The selection of butters and dressings on the side of the platters adds interest. The deserts are served on cold stones, and are fun to mix with ice cream scoops. The only downside, rather expensive for more than very special occasions.

To do it once is an experience, but I certainly wouldn't again pay to go out to dinner, where I have to cook my own meal, and not be able to socialise with the people I have gone with because we are all too busy cooking, and anyway cannot hear ourselves above the loud music.
It may be a novelty once but not again.

Approximate cost: $27.00

This quaint restaurant serves your meat raw on hot stones and it cooks as you eat it! It is a great idea and the meat is fresh. It has changed owners and the menu is better but we found the cut of meat we had not as good as the first time, still good just not as good. The sides could improve but the desert is fun. You get ice cream (3 scoops) on a cold rock. Then they give you lollies to mix into the ice cream. Nice place, food is fresh and definetly worth trying for something different.

Approximate cost: $45
