This is a beautiful old 2-storey pub, well maintained, with a nice new area built unobtrusively onto the side, so as not to destroy the character of the building.
Plenty of off-street parking as well. The dining room has been nicely refurbished, once again keeping the old-style character.
The lady who seated us and then took our orders, served our meals and drinks (the owner, I assumed), was very friendly and welcoming.
We ordered chicken kievs with rose' sauce from the special board, well priced at about $15. Served promptly, nice salad and chips, but unfortunately our chicken had been overcooked and had a burnt taste, as if the coating had burnt and been scraped off. It even smelt burnt as it was being served to us.
This was very disappointing, as everything else about the pub and staff was excellent.
I had heard very good reports about this pub, so I am hopeful that this was an unfortunate slip-up that is not a regular occurrence , so we may give them another go in the future.

Had one of the best salads EVER at the Criterion! Yummo! Pleasant service, very affordable and nice atmosphere. Well worth the stop in Gawler on Nineteenth Street; good parking also. Have a look peeps!

Approximate cost: $18

The staff are so friendly and made our dining experience fantastic. The meals were so well presented and huge for the small price we paid. For 3 Adult main courses it only cost us $55!

Approximate cost: $15.90
