this is where we take our friends from interstate.
Lovely ribs and steak.
They Provide Very Good Services. The Staff is very good.
This place is hidden in a small lane. The restaurant is very cosy and has a great vibe. The food is a little expensive for what you get but still delicious!
Although this restaurant has the same food as the one in Sydney, it's just not quite as good - location, location, location. Southbank is nice but Darling Harbour is fantastic. The food however is great in both locations. Their steaks are amazing as are their chips that come out in a mini "deep fryer" basket. Their ribs are also a standout and they have a great wine list. Yum!
This restaurant sounds amazing. Their menu selection sounds delicious. I hope their prices are as good as the food because I will have to eat out here very soon.
quite expensive, but really really great food
cocktails are really cheap at happy hour
the atmosphere here is great as well
they cater for allergies too which is a plus
I've tried this place a few times as I live in the area. Despite a pretty awesome menu, the deal breaker is that the meat is always well done. Not acceptable when I order medium rare every time. Meals took too long to come out as well. Not as fab as people would lead you to thinl.
oooohh i didn't order the meat here i didn't know that!
Been to this restaurant a number of times, always get treated well. The Portuguese sauce is to die for just try with your steak The location is amazing, just perfect for a special night out. Would recommend.
i agree this place is great for special occassions!
Unfortunately Meat & Wine Co did not impress. Given that they specialize in steak & ribs and have little else on the menu, I would have expected the steak to be of a very good quality. We had a porterhouse cut of MW's house bred grain fed beef. Whilst it was reasonable it did not blow me away, after consider the size and price. (note you also have to pay extra for sauce and anything you want to have with your steak, even if it is just a few leaves - the staff ask you very casually so you might not realise until getting your bill)
On the other hand, the burgers and ribs were very good. Flavoursome, juicy and quite well priced.
MW is a mid-range restaurant (in terms of delivery). I would recommend it for an average business meal, if you want good steak though, I'd recommend another steakhouse not far from it, because MW is not particularly cheap.
thanks for a great review, we are keen to try this restaurant so its helpful to read a review with lots of detail about what to expect from our dining experience.
thanks for the informative review! i didn't notice you had to pay extra for sauce that must be a pain
This is a good reliable eating house. It's big and it has a happy busy atmosphere. I ate here with a friend which was fine and it would be equally suitable for groups. Although it was bustling, the acoustics are fine for talking. The menu offers a good selection of both steaks and other grills, there was a soup on the specials and there are several salads too. My companion and I both enjoyed the delicious Sichuan Calamari entree (this is crumbed and fried, although the menu doesn't say so). My companion had a good steak, with side of chips and creamed spinach. I had the catch of the day which was beautiful fillets of swordfish (on a bed of cous cous) and a side salad. Everything was well presented and nicely cooked. Timing of the courses was steady and service was good. When I first arrived I had a concern that I'd not made a good choice, but I was happy with our experience. Reasonable value too. I did find the wine list pricey but a little limited. Thank you - it was good.
Approximate cost: $35
entree sounds yummy!
I am not even a big meat eater and I love going here. The menu here is so extensive there is sure to be something for everyones liking. I always have the burger with onion rings and it is delicious and full of quality ingredients. The best part of this restaurant is undoubtably the wine and drinks menu... it is huge although, I am a little disappointed that they only have one sweet wine on the menu. The dessert is a must have here as everything is delicious and of the highest quality.
The restaurant itself is gorgeous and has such a classy ambiance with the beautiful curtains and hanging beads.
On Friday and Saturday nights this place is packed so be sure to make reservations a week or so in advance for these nights.
Price wise it is on the expensive side but you are not only paying for the food but the wonderful atmosphere.
The staff here are always courteous and listen to requests and are able to help with the food and drink selection if need be.
Approximate cost: $50
that's good they're not just steaks! burgers with onion rings - you can't go wrong!
Love the ribs at meat and wine co. Service was good, value is ok.. Try the blue cheese and vodka sauce to accompany a new Yorker steak.. Amazing.. Been there a few times and never disappointed. Will go again
Approximate cost: $45
blue cheese and vodka sauce sounds like a killer combination!
I'm not the biggest meat fan but when me and my partner go (for special occasions and outings) I always HAVE to eat the meat there. ABSOLUTLY AMAZING. Writting this review my mouth is wattering just thinking about the meat. And its not only the most amazing steak you will ever have but its also the chips, wine, entree and desert that is amazing as well. And the staff too just lovely people always wanting to please and tend to your needs. Lastly the atmosphere created is beautiful! I will be visiting The Meat & Wine Co till my dying day!
Approximate cost: $70.00
Nothing Special Onion rings is the only dish.. rude wait staffs. Everything triple priced and dirty Ambiance We got a rude staff member telling us to leave early as if the table booked already. Steaks and Lambs were overcooked. They do not marinate before cooking and just throw the flavour on it. Salads are not filling.Stale Prawns in Parmesan & Rocket Salad caused us Indigestion. They tell you to buy fizzed imported spring water
Approximate cost: $70
Its better to stay from this super hyping place...
that's rude of them
probably the best restaurant i've ever been too, great fr birthday dinners. It's not a cheap meal but it's certainly worth the money. You won't find a thing to complain about. Highly recommend, great steak
The food is always consistent and delicious!!!
It's one of our favourite places to eat-
looking forward to next time
great service and fantastic restaurant in a great location. our steaks however did not stand up to their test. and considering the prices they were charging i'd expect more. also, the sauces were nice but again far too pricey. nice vibe for a small party of friends though
if you love steak this is the place to go to in melbourne southbank whent for lunch i had a big piece of steak cooked medium it was so tasty i had mushroom sauce and fries with it,service is excellent it is pricey but u get what u pay for especially for the steak
I celebrated my birthday at The Meat & Wine Co this year.. I had steak - it was perfectly cook as i wanted with mushroom sauce and chips on the side.. Yummy! Great service - professional~ and of course worth every penny..
nice to see your review.. :)
After trying this restaurant while in Sydney a few weeks ago we decided to try out the Melbourne eatery and so glad it lived to our expectations! Wonderful food and service was great. Our waitress was just lovely and cheery and knew the menu inside out! One of the best steaks I've eaten in a while too. You definitely get what you pay for here.
Nice atmosphere, friendly service and prices are fine dining standards. The baby back ribs are so tender and juicy, we ordered half slab but it was so good we ordered another half. The steak is high quality and cooked to perfection. The wine list is extensive.
I really enjoyed this place. This is one of the best burgers I've ever had - the waygu beef burger - yum. Nice selection of wines too. Service was average.
Approximate cost: $25
I've heard some really good things about the Meat & Wine Co in Sydney, but others have mentioned that Meat & Wine Co in Melbourne wasn't that great.
Fortunately for us, we had a fab time!
Went here on Saturday with a group of friends and I think we were the last ones to leave the restaurant! I recommend that you book a week or so in advance though! We booked 2 weeks before the date for 7 people and the best time we could get on the Saturday was 8:45pm!

We got there a bit early on the night, so they directed us to the upstairs bar until our table was ready. We we lucky to get a table upstairs and our own “VIP†room, which was fantastic because we could tell that downstairs was very noisy.

We were waiting on a few others to come, so decided to order some entrees to share. We picked the Salt & Pepper Calamari with gremolata sauce and Pork Belly with a light salad and roasted peanuts. The calamari cooked perfectly and the gremolata sauce added a lovely tang to calamari. The pork belly wasn't that great though. It tasted good, but there was nothing special about it.

Our mains came out at around 10pm! So be prepared - you might be having a really late dinner! For the main, I had the Rump steak cooked medium-well, potato mash and creamy mushroom sauce. I thought my meat was cooked perfectly! Exactly how medium-well is supposed to be; just the right amount of “pinknessâ€! The mash was creamy and the mushroom sauce just bought the whole meal together!

I was quite full at the time, but I couldn't resist ordering some dessert. I ordered the Warm Chocolate & Pistachio Fondante, with vanilla icecream and pistachio nougat. I still remember that moment when you put your spoon through the fondante - the chocolate just oozed out! The dessert was absolutely divine! The chocolate was very rich though, so the icecream really helped! The icecream was nice and velvet-y and the pistachio nougat just added another texture to the dish.

They also have an extensive wine menu. We had the Clover Hill and Vine sav (I think), which was $8 a glass and was very tasty!

My friends and I had an amazing time that night. The service in general was O.K; I couldn't tell whether they took a bit long to see us because we were in a room, or because they thought we weren't ready to order... either way, I thought overall, the experience was very positive. Would definitely recommend the Meat & Wine Co to anyone looking for a special night out with some good company and great steak!
Approximate cost: $30 main, all up $67
the food here is amazing but i found it to be quite overpriced, pretty good service though, would come here again just for the steak yumm
Food here is on the pricey side but is reasonable in terms of fine dining. One of the best steaks I've had in Melbourne, cooked to perfection. A wide selection of entrees available and tastes great. The staff are attentive and ensure your dining experience is pleasant. While selecting a sweet wine, the girl serving our table, happily let me taste different types until I was happy with the wine selected. Definitely will be back again!
Approximate cost: $50
Tried this place for dinner for the first time. Was looking forward to it as I had heard good things about the steaks here. I was not disappointed! The eye fillet steak was cooked to perfection - juicy, tender, truly medium rare. I was advised by our waiter to order medium as they tend to under cook their steak - she was spot on. The chat potatoes were really nice and BBQ relish sauce went really well with the steak. Highly recommended!
I dined here last Tuesday and had the lunch specials with a friend. It was our first time dining here - right in the heart of Southbank. Reading previous reviews, we decided to dine here - and decided to get the $25 lunch special with certain meals and a glass of wine/beer or soft drink. The service was great, the staff was particularly accommodating to our needs. The servings were also generous, and I'd certainly come back again!
Approximate cost: $25
This was the scene of possibly the best Lamb Shanks I have EVER eaten bar none. Stopped in for a feed on the final night of a boys weekend interstate and we're very glad we did. The quality of the food was amazing. Generous servings, though it's not the cheapest place you'll find - pretty much what you'd expect for the location.
The service we received was quicker than we expected for a fairly busy Saturday night (grand final replay weekend) which was rather impressive.
The service was not as bad as the other reviews have stated, in fact I had pretty good service last time I went there in Melbourne. It has attentive and friendly. The food was really good also, it was a good and memorable experience. It's a pretty awesome place and the furnishing is all original and there's only a clear red sheet between the kitchen so you can see what's happening inside and the chef's even said hi! (:
Best steak i have ever had, although it was a bit pricey.
Was crowded and waiting time was a tad long but all and all, it was a good experience and you get most of your moneys worth.
Approximate cost: $70
We eat here everytime we are in melbourne, unfortunately last weekend our waitress was rude and rushed us, the wine we selected was unavailable(as well as the next 2 we choose) apparently they are changing the wine list! The food is always superb as you would expect with the pricing, just the pushy service lets them down. We would have stayed alot longer and drank more wine and dessert if we weren't rushed out. But alas it is still our favourite place to eat!
