The food is decent and the drinks aren't particularly cheap but it is a pleasant place to have a drink and relax. It is a great place to sit down and enjoy the sea breeze.

Great big beer garden overlooking the beach is the highlight. Great food, friendly service. A must visit place.
I have been here a couple of times now and I agree that the location is perfect. The view of the beach is stunning and adds to the overall experience. Also the food they sell is amazing.
A great place to visit during the summer. I ordered the burger and received my meal quickly and it was completely hassle free. The meals are a pretty good price considering the high quality of them. The staff were also very welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.
Approximate cost: $20
In a great location pretty well right on the water with wonderful views. Ideal for a drink in summer in the beer garden or in winter for a comforting meal. Quality food, though very strict on alterations - basically none allowed. The soy aioli is delicious!
Portsea pu was ince owned by the Vaughan family (Vaughan Transport) was sold to new owners l believe late 90'sl maybe wrong with year love coming here the veiws the food the service always spot on keep up the good work
After being a regular visiter to the Portsea Hotel my last two visits have been less than impressive. I was with a friend who can not have dairy and the staff were not able to assist with her requirements. No one could tell her if the aoli had dairy in it, she eventually ordered the burger only to be told later on that the meat was cooked in butter. No options were provided or refund offered directly.
The next time friends had ordered the $99 seafood platter only to find the cold seafood was still frozen despite the menu saying it was fresh. Staff did not apologize and just offered a jug of beer.
Such a shame for an iconic pub with awesome views.
Approximate cost: $28
We went there with one of the local friend for lunch. We enjoyed the food. I had salmon with salad ,hubby had chicken with salad and our friend had burger. We all loved our food and generous portion and food was tasty. For the price and pub food, it is a good place to go
Approximate cost: $20
called in here for dinner with the family very nice looking pub with a great atmosphere as well the food was ok but was very over priced we found the customer service was great though and had nice cold beer so cant go wrong there just a little dear here though
Approximate cost: $45
It is a nice pub however there menus is very expensive. There is not very much parking unless you park down the street. However it is very clean and the staff were super nice.
Approximate cost: $25
great place:)
Oh the memories of coming here every single year for a reunion for school! Its the most beautiful pub imaginable. Its right on the beach which is perfect for the warm summers night relaxing with a pint. Its quite a large Pub and very homely looking on the inside as well. Meals are also served here which are very nice and appetising. Very touristy when its the season so it can get busy!
I've always loved going for a drink and occasion lay meal at the port sea pub. Great service. Fantastic food. Easily far better than your average pub meal
What can you say abut The Portsea. An amazing atmosphere, great service, awesome food. And the views of the beach, just feel the serenity. Bit of a drive down from Melbourne, but all worth it upon arrival. Have been many times, will be back before long.
Approximate cost: $25
We had a beautiful meal! My husband said his steak sandwich was the best he's ever eaten although I thought the sticky date pudding was pretty average. Really nice spot overlooking the water and a grass area where the kids can play.
Amazing views which is obviously my favourite part of eating at this restaurant. Especially nice place to relax and unwind if you've just made the trip across on the ferry from Queenscliff. Food quality varies but the parma I had on my most recent visit was delicious and lots of it for those who like large meals. I've eaten at both the inside and outside tables because of the weather and either way it's a great experience
The food has definitely improved recently, but is still a little expensive. The calamari is lovely! The wine list does not reflect the quality of Mornington Peninsula wines at all which is disappointing. However this hotel is in a great spot and it has a great beer garden for drinks by the beach.
This pub is great for the younger generation. The views are however, really good and the food is quite nice. You can sit inside or outside.
The meals are good and service is as expected for large hotel. The great thing about this venue is the choice of area's to eat and the wonderful views. Would recommend this place specially outside of peak season
Approximate cost: $35
I constantly go to the Portsea hotel occasionally and I absolutely love it there is a magnificent view and a open fire place when you enter into the hotel restaurant area the atmosphere is amazing.
What an amazing veiw from the deck at the Portsea hotel. Price less piece of realestate. I loved sitting there looking out at the sorrento ferry, and other ships coming through the heads. Just glorious. However, i did not enjoy the price tag for the drinks or the food. I dont mind paying for quality fresh products, but frozen processed calamari rings, not my cup of tea. Not happy to pay $9 for a glass of cheap sparkiling wine either... I think you guys should re-think the prices, just because you Can charge these prices, doesn't mean you should!! dissappointed.
Approximate cost: $30
I ordered the chicken parma which was ok but obviously precooked as it was on the table within 5 mins of ordering I was also very dissapointed there were only a handful of french fries and no salad for the price charge they I was expecting a bit more, and it would'nt hurt if the tables were cleaned properly either.
Approximate cost: $25.00
The Portsea Hotel has the best beer garden! The bay views are magnificent. The staff are happy to help and the meals appear from the kitchen very quickly. They are hugely popular over Summer and to get a table outside in the garden you have to be quick. We dined upstairs and in the bistro and both were great. I stayed here overnight many years ago and it was very basic with shared bathrooms - I don't know if it has changed though. I think the staff make this place - they are very accommodating.
Approximate cost: $20-25
Having had my wedding here, several years ago, I always return to the Portsea Hotel with fond memories.
For our wedding, they were unbelievably well-priced; especially considering the location! The hotel wedding coordinator was always reliable and available. She made the process smooth and easy for us. The wedding went by fabulously and the service, meals and decoration were spectacular. A top notch effort by everyone.
However, the last time we went in to have a meal, the experience was a little disappointing. Having ordered a burger, my meal came with a stale bread roll and a dirty plate. Our table was sticky and our cutlery had been used, so we went to get some more by the counter. When we did so, the waitress remarked 'have you got enough cutlery now?'. I explained that the ones on our table were used, so she removed them very abruptly and appeared to scoff at my suggestion.
Oh well!
We will go back again, and put this simply down to a one-off bad experience, as every other time the place has been fabulous! Just make sure you can stand being surrounded by all that money and people who know they have it, and LOVE to show it.
Best meal: seafood linguini!
Approximate cost: $25+
An institution a must do when in portsea
I love the Portsea Hotel whether it be sitting at their outside tables in summer having a few drinks or enjoying a large meal next to the open fires inside over winter time. The hotel overlooks Port Phillip Bay and has some amazing views and sunsets. The food could be considered a little pricey however is served in large quantities and is very tasty. A legendary hotel, in the perfect location which is also a lot of fun come Saturday night. I believe the hotel does wedding packages and conferences as well which would be ideal with the surroundings.
