Given the rate of unemployment, one could reasonably assume that there are people who actually 'want' to work and will do so in a professional and productive manner. Given that this is not a 'one off' experience, perhaps you might like to consider composing a letter of complaint for management, as they might be interested to hear of their employee's lackings.
