Tom's has a restaurant which offers regular upper class pub grub. The front bar is often frequented by tradies and also features a pub tab. Service is fair but can be a little slow at busy times

I have been to Tom's plenty of times over the last half dozen years and it definitely try's to be a lot of things but doesn't always quite get there. The front bar with the TAB is generally frequented by your blue collar workers who come in for a few (or a lot) of beers after work. At the back there is a restaurant, gaming room and kids play area. The kids play area is a nice touch for familys and is definitely something that a lot of other pubs don't offer. The food itself is pretty standard with the prices being a bit more on the expensive side. The gaming room is always pretty busy. Not a bad pub for a change of venue but there is plenty of competition for a beer drinker's patronage in the Townsville area.

Went to Tom's as a family group birthday party, 10 adults and 12 kids, on a Sunday for lunch recently. We had a booking and everything was set up for us on arrival. This is a very family friendly venue with an outdoor and indoor play area for the kids. One of the kids was sick and the lady manager insisted on cleaning it up herself. The menu for both adults and kids has a good variety and prices for meals and drinks are reasonable in my opinion. We ordered our meals from the menu in one order and they all arrived together within a reasonable time We were permitted to take our own birthday cake and it was kept out back for us until we were ready for it. All of the staff were very nice and helpful. This was our first time at this venue and I would recommend it for a similar family gathering. The kids had a great time. Well organised.

Its a rough pub that tries to be something else. Food is pub quality with a metro price tag and an eternity to arrive. definatkey not my first choice to visit and not worth as much as you pay in my opinion

I've been to toms tavern twice now and both times left very disappointed. Don't think I will return in the future. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere fine but the meals where a total let down.
On my first visit I ordered seafood for 2 to share with my sister. Was so excited by the idea of the platter. I know the platter for 2 at many places isn't very large but I wasn't all that hungry so not concerned. However when it arrived there was only 2 small bits of fish, 6 calamari and 4 crumbed prawns with a handful of chips. All obviously just crumbed frozen stock. Another at the table got the chicken Parma half was burnt black and the other half barely even had the cheese melted.
On the second occasion I dined here I ordered the stirfry and added chicken. Cost about $20 and was described as Asian vegetables and hokkein noodles in sauce. What arrived at my table was why looked like a whole pack of noodles with a little bit of honey soy sauce and 2 pieces of carrot, couple pieces of capsicum and my added chicken of course. Was so dry and plain I couldn't even eat it.

All the meals I have tried here have been good value and good food. They do lovely steaks, cheap lunches and the fries are very tasty. It is very spacious inside and always seems very clean.

Approximate cost: $18
