Went on the Convicts, Castles and Champagne cruise with my boyfriend to Goat Island. The service was timely and friendly and the riding the tall ship through the harbour with bubbles was definitely a great start. However, when we arrived at Goat Island we were led into a dingy shed for the lunch component. The vegetarian food, which is optional if you give notice 3 days ahead, is just the potato and pasta salad without the meats. Overall food wasn't great, but the free beverages did continue. The tour in general seemed to be lacking, a significant portion of the talking time was spent on where the roof tiles came from, the current caretaker and a squatter incident from about a month ago. The castle was a gunpowder magazine, the convict aspect is hearing about the work life of 1 convict on the island. Overall, was a nice day in the sun but I would not recommend it.

The idea of this cruise sounds really cool and interesting, but it sounds like they need to work on the food aspect and what topics is covered on the tour aspect. Unless, I read a glowing review on this tour, I probably will not bother with it. Thanks for sharing.

I purchased online and booked two tickets for the Convict, Castles & Champagne Lunch Tour leaving The Rocks at Campbell's Cove on a vintage 1922 ferry - The Wangi Queen.

Wow, what a pleasant experience. This tour went for 2 hrs 45 minutes and It included a cruise of Sydney Harbour and also an informative guided tour of Goat Island. A buffet lunch on the island was included, and at the moment they also provide an open bar during the cruise and, and also during lunch on Goat Island. Within 5 minutes of boarding we were sipping at Champagne and enjoying the view.

You know when you've had a good time when it's hard to pick out a highlight of the experience. I didn't think I would enjoy the old ferry, but I was wrong it was very smooth, and relaxing.

This is an experience worth repeating as it has all the right elements:-
friendly staff, good food, lots of drinks, great sights, and also it is a very educational experience. Wait until you visit the gun powder magazine and hear about it's history - amazing.

Tickets for this tour can also be purchased from Sydney Tall Ships on Wharf 5, at Circular Quay (www.sydneytallships.com.au) 1800 825 574 or from Sydney Tours and Cruises (www.uniquesydneycruises.com.au) on 02 8243 7963.

Approximate cost: $79
