Beware this day spa. I have just come from the worst day spa experience in my life. I have used many day spas for both massages and facials and decided to try Urban Retreat after checking the prior ratings on this site. Unfortunately my experience was so poor it is worth the effort of adding a review so other customers are aware. I booked in for a traditional facial that included a 30 min back massage and 60 min facial. The therapist didn't cover off what we're doing and simply asked me to get changed if I wanted to, emphasising I didn't need to and left the room. Upon return I had to clarify that I had the right booking as staff didn't seem to know what I was there for and was confused why I didn't need to get changed - you normally do if you are having a massage? After confirmation that we were on the same page my massage started. It was ok, there was no consultation around the oils used etc. when we moved to the facial it became apparent the therapist didn't know what staff was doing. Staff kept apologising for I don't know what, mentioned that staff had only been doing this for 2 months. Once again no communication about what was happening, staff didn't ask about any skin sensitivities, or the products used. I decided to take charge and asked staff. The response was weird, staff mentioned the key phases and that all products were natural. Staff kept asking me for clarification on what to do and in the end I asked if staff was ok - I was starting to wonder if staff was genuinely ok. Staff cleansed my face poorly with terrible technique and added the exfoliant, after staff removed the product I checked my face to find product left all over it, staff also put product in my eyes during the cleanse and exfoliant phase. I was starting to get worried at this point as the therapist clearly was struggling to work out what the next step was in the process. At this point I started to feel hot on my face, when staff looked at my face staff looked concerned and asked if my face felt hot. I asked staff to confirm what my face looked like and staff said red. Staff didn't know what to do. By now I was concerned. I asked staff for a cold wet towel immediately. Staff didn't have a face towel and asked if a towel would be ok, I said I didn't care but we needed to wash my face urgently. At this point I'd had enough and asked for an experienced person to check my face. After some discussion someone else appeared who checked my face and confirmed it was bright red. I asked for advice on treating it, promptly got dressed and left. The therapist who treated my told me before staff left to get their senior staff member that staff shouldn't have been doing facials??? If you value your health avoid this day spa. This was supposed to have been an hour and a half of bliss as a birthday treat. Instead I ended up with a red face for two hours.

Have traveled the entire world in and out of day spas and parlors and can vouch that this place provided me with the best hour of relaxation that I have experiencedin Australia. The young masseus appearedexperienced beyond her years and very sociable and polite. Would be 5 stars if baht was the currency. But very affordable nevertheless!

Have remedial massages with Katie. Fantastic masseuse. Very knowledgeable and incredibly lovely. I've had many massages at many different places and can recommend Urban Retreat over and above all others.

Had a remedial massage - good, knowledgeable staff and very professional. They were running on time, had very nice facilities, and I'll definitely go back next time I am in Queensland.

The Urban Retreat at Hawthorne has a new owner! And the interior has been transformed into a true escape. As soon as you walk in you forget that you're still on a main road...relaxation as soon as you walk in the door!! Happy Urban Retreat Customer!!
