Why take a carriage when the walk is great to granite island saw string rays and dolphins
Take water and a hat if hot and enjoy the scenery a little over priced for carriage ride
Love this remember going as a kid and just went recently will Be going back when we are in Adelaide again in January
It is a nice idea, however we didn't get the opportunity to go on it as they said it was too windy for the horses, the price is ok $9 for and adult, we did walk over to the island and this was not too far anyway.
Approximate cost: $9
It is nice horse powered tram that bring you to granite island. While the trip is relaxing with the sea breeeze blowing and we did enjoyed the cold and chilly wind. However, to me its not really worth it cuz the distance from the mainland to the island its not that far and the price for per trip is not cheap as well. However, its a good experience for little kids and elderly who wished to relax and enjoy the breeze!
We walked over to Granite Island and decided to take the horse drawn tram back as the weather was starting to get a bit iffy and we were so glad we did. It was so relaxing after spending the whole morning walking. It is a little noisy but that really just ads to the atmosphere
I have been meaning to take my girlfriend. Thanks for reminding me.
It's a bit pricey, but in saying that, it's fun!! Take a seat up at the top of the tram to get the full experience!! Tram takes you over to Granite Island where you can reward yourself with a coffee if you decided to walk over, or walk a lap of the island to earn yourself a piece of cake. Enjoy :)
When you visit victor harbor be sure to visit the victor harbor tramway. The tram goes to granite island. It's takes a half hour to get to the island.
When you get off the tram there is a cafe where you can get a meal and also a walking track around the island.
I am letting all my friends know about the horse drawn tram in victor harbor.
Approximate cost: $8.00
When visiting Victor Harbor, a must do is going for a ride on the horse drawn tram. This runs from Victor to Granite Island across the connecting jetty. The horses are so majestic and patient with the never ending photos and pats they receive. A delightful way to arrive at Granite Island before either a scenic walk, pengiun sight seeing or a meal at the local cafe
Approximate cost: $8.00
A ride on the historic horse-drawn tram is a must-do activity while in Victor Harbor. The Clydesdale horses are very well cared for, and the trams are beautifully maintained. Once aboard you have a choice of comfortable indoor seating or you may choose to sit upstairs in the fresh air. Once on the island there is plenty to do, including hiking, whale watching (in season), a trip to the Penguin Centre, guided Penguin walks, lunch or dinner at the cafe/restaurant, or just a coffee and cake while enjoying the stunning scenery.
i feel like such a little kid when i get on the horse draw tram i always go straight too the top and look around. the horses are lovely and the tram is quite nice for such an old thing. id highly recommend too anyone that has kids or wants too feel like a child again love it
No doubt at all about this being a wonderful activity/outing to go on. One of the "must do" things in this lovely area. We had a perfect day and rode the tramway one way, walking back the other so we could take some stunning photos. They have a ramp so prams and wheelchairs can access.
Loved the horses and yes, they look well cared for and are enjoying themselves, even though it looks like sometimes there is a heavy load, but you have to remember these are work horses for ploughing hard fields etc and it's their nature. The children were fascinated by all the reins, tack etc necessary to control all this rig.
The trams themselves are beautifully kept and preserved.
All the passengers were chatting and having a great time, looking around at this beautiful area and its scenery.
I was also able to buy a Tshirt with the horse tramway on it as a great souvenir of our ride. A must for tourists and locals alike.
Trams run everyday except Christmas Day. Trams run hourly from the Mainland 10.30 - 3:30pm and from the Island 11.00 - 4pm.
Approximate cost: $22 family
This horse tram is a South Australian icon as well as a Victor Harbor one. It is one of the last horse trams operating in the world and is a marvelleous experience. Seating is available inside and also upstairs in the open air. The tram goes across the causeway to Granite Island that is part of the National Park system. If you are lucky you may see penguins. There is cafe/restaurant on the island and walks around the island too. It is great not to need to walk both ways across the causeway after seeing the natural sites. The horses are well looked after and rotated regularly and they seem to enjoy the task
Always a pleasant ride, the horses are very well trained. I encourage everyone to try this at least once so we never loose this iconic form of travel. The children always like to ride on it and its such a good way to teach them about horses and carts.
This iconic horse tram has been in Victor Harbor for a long as I can remember (and that's a long time) The horses know what to do and seem to enjoy doing it.
These days I like to walk one way across the causeway and ride the other way. It is a tradition to go to the island every time we visit Victor. I think it is loved by the locals and South Australia very much and also enjoyed by our very welcome visitors to Victor Harbor.
On a recent trip to SA with my husband we went on the tramway and found to be a great experience and enjoyed it.
Price was very reasonable and will definitely consider this experience again on our next trip to South Aust
Yes, I too have been on this Horse Drawn tramway across to Granite Island. It is a must for people to do when they are in Victor Harbour.
A great way to travel.
A must if your in adelaide. A great way to get to Granite Island if you dont want to walk from Victor Harbour especially for the olderly. Its a great experience at a reasonable cost normally we walk over as a family and then ride back.
Approximate cost: $6 adult one way Ot $8 both way. $4 child one way both way $6
Riding on this tram is a fantastic experience. The beautiful, gentle-giant Clydesdale horses that slowly pull the carriage along the rail line across the jetty to Granite Island are just mesmerising to watch. You feel like you're in a long-past era.
We like to walk over and then ride back. This costs $6 per adult & $4 per child, or you can ride both ways for $8 & $6.
Also a great way for older folk or people who have difficulty walking, to experience the island.
The Victor Harbour Tramway horse drawn tram connects Victor Harbour to Granite Island. While you can walk the causeway, hopping on the horse drawn tram is a fun and relaxing alternative!
