Awesome, old school place. Great for a night out with the boys. Expect to go with their style and not yours and you'll love it. It's been around for so long for a reason.

Knowing what to expect is the key to dining in a place like Vlado's. Just like Stefan's, the menu is set and so is the price. The only selection is the kind of steak (wagyu, rump, eyefillet or porterhouse) you would like and whether you wanted ice-cream or pancake for dessert. The service is similar. Spartan as some would call it. Other than that, it is what it is. And what it is all about of course, is the steak. It is still one of the very best steaks around. Cooked to perfection on the custom made charcoal grill, it is just beautiful. Come here for anything else you will leave disappointed.

I took my wife to Vlado's for her birthday expecting big things from the restaurant's reputation and fixed price to boot. On arrival, the small converted terrace house was packed to the rafters with a stressed waiter informing us that our reserved table was upstairs. We made our own way up to a small room where yet more people were crammed in. Granted, the setting could have given an intimate and authentic dining feel, the place was just too damn busy at the time to even think. Not a minute after we sat down, the waiter slapped down a sausage for each of us on an empty plate. This I discovered was to be the first course. There appeared to be a salad in the middle of the table that was present before we arrived. It looked tired, unimpressive and not fitting of a reputable restaurant. The 'second course' came in the form of liver, hamburger patties and some diced steak, again slapped on an empty plate without garnish or any other thought. The meat was well cooked and had a fine texture but was unfortunately only warm by the time it reached the table. For the third course we had a choice of steaks which was a nice touch. The waiter displayed each of the raw meats and we made our choice. 40 minutes later I asked what the delay was and received two steaks almost dropped on our table by a disgruntled waiter without a word. Again, the steak was amazingly well cooked with an incredible texture but was warm like the previous course. After seeing two other couples walk out without receiving their mains, we decided it was time for us to leave as we suspected the average sounding dessert would most likely be just that. Unlike the couples mentioned, we proceeded to pay our bill of $204 (set menu with two glasses of wine). I mentioned to the waiter that, while the food was to a good standard the service was very poor. The cherry on top was the waiter's smug response of "well we can't serve what we haven't cooked"! I'm blown away by the amount of favourable reviews this restaurant has received, it is an absolute lemon of a steakhouse relying on its good name and location.

This place is just sensational! Quite unique to Richmond, you seriously can't get a better steak than at this place!

client took me there for dinner. Had heard lots about this place-mostly good. Without doubt the best steak I have had in a long time. Good wine list as well.

Food: The worst steak I ever had in my life. The steak is terribly dry and moistless, so does the sausages. The main, which is the steak, is so plain, just a steak on the plate on it's own. Although it has a very good smell of charcoal, but I guess it overcooked. My home cook steak is much better than Valdo.
Service: Their service is okay, all waiters are giving pretty standard service, but I wouldn't say they are friendly (no smile on their face)
Atmosphere: The dining area is very small, and table and chair are so close together, it's like everyone it sitting next to each other.
I heard some very good reviews and recommended from my friend, and I make a visit to Voldo in April 2009, but was highly disappointed.
Normally I don't often write reviews but I wrote this because for the price you pay ($90), you should deserve better.

Oliver has no taste. Like I said in my rating, the decor leaves a lot to be desired. The steak is great! it's called personal preference. These guys have been in business for 30+ years, hence why they are an institution.

Went there with my sister and brother for a special occasion and left feeling very disappointed. After years of hearing hype about how fantastic it was I was very disappointed in the place.
The decor is very kitch! Not at all what I expected for a $80 per head.
The food was nice but to be honest I've had better steaks elsewhere. I expected the steaks to be out of this world amazing and I found them to be bland and relatively flavorless. There was also a group of about 15 guys (upstairs) in the room with us and within 30mins of them being there they were very noisy and rowdy but the staff said nothing and just kept serving them alcohol.
Overall I was just disappointed as we'd heard such great things about it and it fell well short of expectations.

I went to this restaurant with some colleagues who knew it. We were handed a menu but the only choice you get is Rib eye or Porterhouse and whether it is large or small. The menu is set @ $80 a head. You get a europena sausage with come condiments (horse radish and the like) and then a small mixed pate of hamburger pattie, fillet steak, liver and something else (escapes me). Then comes some coleslaw, bread and toher salad before the steak arrives. I chose the large porterhouse medium and it was sensational. Washed down with a couple of Crownies I was satisfied. Value for money wasn;t that great but they made room for us without notice and I enjoyed the steak.
