After reading a review that this was one of the "3 best fish restaurants in Victoria", hubby & I decided to dine here during a recent stay in Port Albert. Twice.

The first night, hubby's meals were fantastic, especially the chilli ginger mussel entree. I had calamari & it was pretty good. However, I chose flathead for my main & was really disappointed. It was a nice meal with fat chips, which I thought was a little 'twee' for a place of this calibre. Then I actually ate one...a chip...it was absolutley awful with what I believe was that disgusting chicken-salt on it. I almost fell out of my chair. What a let-down after 2 great entrees. I ended up ordering a hot potato salad in the end because I just can't stomach that disgusting salt. the potato salad was really nice, thank god. My berry meringue dessert was absolutely delightful; it was a little like Eaton Mess...YUM!

Reluctantly, we returned 2 days later, but this time all the meals were great. Unfortunately, after a day of gourmet gorging, we only had room for a main & dessert. I had duckfish which was absolutely beautiful with a pear & rocket salad that was to-die-for & that fabulous meringue dessert again. Unusually for me, I can't remember what hubby had for main, but I know he loved it & his berry semi-freddo was delicious..
The service both times was exemplary. The 2 staff on (both nights, same people) were really delightful & considering they had a full house both nights, they kept cool heads. They were always smiling, & made time to engage us in a little banter, without causing any problems or delays. I was very impressed with them both. They actually made the whole experience a pleasure, & next time we visit Port Albert I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. I'll just have to remember to ask them for no chips if I order the flathead :)

Approximate cost: $28-35
