What a nightmare. My mother and I purchased a property 5 years ago, and we specified on no less than 3 occasions via e-mail that we need an 80:20 split in ownership, in my mother's favour. The solicitor [redacted due to personal identifier] went ahead with the purchase with a 50:50 split, a mistake that was not discovered until a year later. I have been trying for 4 years to rectify this situation but it has proven extremely difficult to get in touch with the solicitor, with phone calls and e-mails ignored. I am currently looking into suing the solicitor for damages, as it is costing us thousands in additional rental income tax liability due to the difference in tax brackets between my mother and I.
