I am writing this review on behalf of my family, who, based on their interactions/experience with the owner of the business, decided it was futile to do so themselves.

My family left their dog at Bangalow Cottage Pet Motel over Christmas, and when they picked him up there was a large, open wound next to his eye that, according to the owner, had occurred some days earlier.

The owner had a very elaborate explanation for the wound that involved our dog ‘cutting his eye on a gate’. He stated that he had been ‘treating’ the wound himself and that our dog had reopened the scab.

We immediately took our dog to to a vet who inspected the wound and advised that it had likely occurred from a dog bite, not a gate. Upon further inspection, another puncture mark was found near
the gash – a bite mark. The vet stated that stitches were required and that our dog should have been taken in immediately after the injury.

My family emailed the owner to query this with him, and he stuck to his original story and even had the audacity to say that he “hadn’t even charged my family for treating the wound”.

We understand that accidents happen. What we do not understand is:
Why we weren’t contacted immediately when the injury occurred?
What qualifications does the owner have in ‘treating’ animals?
How was our dog ‘treated’, and why wasn’t our consent sought?

We aren’t expecting these questions to be answered (truthfully) but this is something to keep in mind when considering using Bangalow Cottage Pet Motel.
