We just wanted to write a small piece about the experience we have had with Kim and The Style Project in Sydney. In 2015 we transformed four rooms in our home including a complete bathroom renovation.
We had been trying to change and update the feel of our home.
With a 1920’s Californian bungalow it was a struggle to find the balance between ‘period style’ and not be ‘old fashioned’. We wanted to add a fresh feel with style and a quality appearance whilst staying in touch with the period features of the home.
It was clear to me we were out of our depth and so began researching interior designers. This was the beginning of our journey with Kim and The Style Project.
Kim was the first to respond to our enquiries for a start. The aura around the industry can be intimidating. Some stylists and designers can be condescending and supercilious.
Kim’s approach was the exact opposite. She was extremely open and helpful. We were immediately relaxed. She took the time to understand our home and ideas. Kim had great experience and understanding for our type of home. Her passion & enthusiasm came bubbling over in her questions or in the ideas she was suggesting and discussing.
Everything regarding the contract was clear. Meetings, proposals, idea sessions with materials, swatches and demonstrations were all managed promptly, were well organised or followed up. We toured retailers and design houses to view products in person and ensure as the client we were clear on what each product was going to be like.
Importantly for a designer; any changes suggested by us were dealt with constructively, allowing us to work together to achieve the result and design we wanted.
At The Style Project, Kim wasn’t just about the fluffy stuff of design.
She personally project managed the contractors and was on hand to inspect or coordinate the majority of work. Kim was always interested in how we felt about the project and at all times was open to feedback.
The final designs, set up and finished appearance of the rooms that we did have come out beyond our expectations.
The spaces are now elegant, warm and perfectly fitting with the type of home we have created.
Now not every aspect of a project runs perfectly. Occasionally, especially for us in Sydney a contractor, trade or delivery will let you down.
Importantly, in these rare instances, Kim did not hesitate to get involved, manage the issue and coordinate a solution. There were no cover ups, no ego, no blame or excuses. Kim and The Style Project took ownership and held those involved accountable, including herself.
I learned a lot during the experience. The rooms completed are outstanding and our home is much closer to being the haven we have strived for it be. We are so pleased with the result it has spurred us on to finish the other projects that had originally been planned for much later.
