This review is for Pancho's Mexican Villa Restaurant, East Victoria Park WA

Pancho's is the kind of Mexican food that you could cook yourself - you just don't have to do it! But I'm not saying that that's a bad thing - if you're after something a little more 'high-end' then Pancho's probably isn't for you, but if you just love tacos, burritos, nachos and fajitas then this is your spot! We were there for a friend's birthday on a Friday evening, and the place was packed. There was a vibrant atmosphere and everyone seemed to be having fun (which isn't surprising given the cocktail options!) The staff were super helpful and did their best for a fickle 3 year old. The restaurant itself is interesting as it's comprised of several rooms and an outdoor area, so it feels quite cosy, and if you want to leave your mark there's a wall where people have written all sorts of messages over the past 10 years. We had 8 adults at our table, including 2 vegetarians. Every person ordered something different for mains, and there were no complaints - in fact one of our party said that his meal was the best he'd ever had in a restaurant! Someone at our table ordered the 'birthday' dessert, and the menu's promise that the staff would accompany it by singing a 'loud and boisterous Happy Birthday' was fulfilled. All-in-all it was a fun night out, generous serves of good food, and friendly staff.

This review is for Walliston Deli, Walliston WA

The Wally Deli does a great range of takeaway food in addition to the usual local deli supplies of milk, bread, etc.
I absolutely recommend their fish and chips - either battered or grilled their snapper is always superb, and for the price you get plenty of chips. These guys are my number 1 choice for fish & chips over anyone else in Kalamunda or Roleystone.
Their burgers are also great - try a Wally Burger but be warned that it's pretty big. I once made the mistake of ordering a King Wally Burger and it was about the size of my head!
I also wouldn't say no to one of their bacon and egg sandwiches...
The staff are always friendly and as a general rule service is quick for takeaways that you ring through first.

This review is for Wombat Gully Plant Farm, Barrabool VIC

I love this place, if only it was in Perth where I live! I've been here several times and am very envious of my relatives who live nearby.
The selection of plants is very good in the amount of space that they have, and the prices are good. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
The Fig & Hoe Cafe located within the nursery is a gorgeous little spot which also doubles as a gift store with some beautiful homewares, clothing, jewellery, garden related items, etc. There are a couple of tables inside, but I much prefer one of the outside tables which are in little 'rooms' made by arrangements of plants that are for sale. The food was top quality cafe food and they made an excellent cup of tea (I'm very fussy).
The only downside to this place is that the amount of parking is very limited. On a busy day there is never enough parking and you have to park on the street, but there are signs on the street warning you that parking there is prohibited - no choice though...

This review is for National Wool Museum, Geelong VIC

verified email - 22 Mar 2013

The National Wool Museum is located in a beautiful old bluestone woolstore building in the centre of Geelong, and to be honest, one of reasons I went there was to get a look inside the building. I wasn't disappointed with anything I saw there. The exhibits were arranged over 3 storeys and a huge old carpet loom is in the centre - you walk up ramps around it. The loom runs every day at certain times, and if you like you can buy a persian rug that has been made on the loom. Obviously most of the exhibits were to do with the history of sheep farming, wool production and the use of wool in Australia, but they also have other short-term exhibitions which cover a huge range of subjects (whilst I was there this was a room full of old postcards collated from the general public, written from, featuring pictures of, or about, Geelong - it was fascinating to look and read, but you would have needed an entire day to get through all of them!). The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. There's a good museum shop that contains the usual Australiana souvenirs that put me off, but that tourists like so much, but there's also a beautiful range of high quality woollen coats, scarves, gloves etc. I am a youngish woman who went there alone and I spent nearly 2 hours wandering and could have spent longer on the stuff I was interested in if I'd had time - I don't have kids so I didn't even venture near the kiddy exhibits.

This review is for Podz Florist, Kalamunda WA

These guys are definitely a cut above your standard suburban florists. If you're after the stock standard couple of stems of gerberas/carnations/liliums stuck in a bunch for $40-$50, then this is not for you, but if you're after something a bit different and beautiful give them a go. I have previously bought arrangements from them that contained not only flowers, but pears, and pistachios, still attached to the branches. The last arrangement I bought cost me $35 and was incredible - I wasn't intending to buy flowers that day and had parked my car far away; on the walk back people passing were stopping me and commenting on how amazing it was! They also have a small range of quirky giftware in their store - some clothing, soft toys, homewares - these are fairly expensive, but again, if you're looking for something different...

This review is for The Cavern, Kalamunda WA

I was recently taken here for my birthday, hadn't previously been. Had a share plate to start, followed by four other dishes and 2 desserts, a bottle of wine and a bourbon, which came in at about $140 which was great value compared to some tapas bars I have been to previously. The food was amazing and the serving sizes were good (the amount of food we ordered was too much for 2 people, but because it was a special occasion we went against the waiter's advice just because we wanted to try everything!). The bar/wine list is well stocked, and the service was great - everyone was attentive, but not pushy. The place was buzzing and everyone around us seemed happy with what they had. Will be going back frequently.

This review is for White Room Framing Studios, Kalamunda WA

Andrew and Kiara did an amazing job of framing a large oil painting for me. They were so helpful and spent a lot of time helping me to decide how to go about it, as I had no idea what I wanted. Having used another framer before I moved into the area, I was very pleasantly surprised at the price. I will not hesitate to return to White Room in the future.
