The school offers a basic ladies style cut for $8, which is what I went for. For the price, I couldn't really complain.
The hairdresser who attends to you is still under training, and is supervised for most of the time.
She asked me what I wanted done, and when I finished explaining, repeated it back to me before starting to cut my hair.
The whole process takes a bit longer than usual, as they are trainees, and the supervisor does come in from time to time to offer advice/tips or suggestions. All in all, it took 50 mins for a basic style cut. For the price of $17, you can have a shampoo, cut and blow dry.
The school also offers services in hair colouring, highlighting and special occasions. They also offer facials, waxing, nails, makeup and body treatments.

This unassuming eatery serves up probably the most authentic Chinese food available in Townsville - at affordable prices. Their extensive menu is quite varied, with offerings such as Whole BBQ roast duck to Chicken laksa. On this particular outing, I ordered the Char Kwey Teow, and it failed to disappoint. It was probably a tad spicier than most Kwey Teows I have had in the past, but that being said, the serving was generous and cooked nicely. (A few more greens added would have been perfect!)
My partner ordered the Seafood and tofu hot pot, with a side serve of steamed rice. The clay pot kept the food delectably warm, and the shards of salted fish were spot on.
That being said, most of this place's menu is probably a little unfamiliar to customers used to 'westernized' Asian cuisine. If you're looking for requisite Sweet and sour Pork or Lemon Chicken, you've come to the wrong place. Much more adventurous fare is on offer, such as the curious Strawberry Pork with Milk Pudding or Beef with Shambay sauce.
I should give those a go next time - if only to see for myself what they taste like!
They have BYO and takeaway options. However if you do not finish the portions served while dining in, you will be charged a 50 cent fee to take the remainder with you in a plastic container.
This unassuming eatery will be a hit with those comfortable with exploring the more undiscovered flavours of authentic Chinese cuisine (with a hint of Malaysian influence).

Approximate cost: $17 - 25

I have eaten here twice now, and both times our meals took approx 45 mins to arrive. Once was with a group of 8 on
a Saturday night. But the second time was just the four of us on a quiet weeknight (there were only 3 other tables at the time).

When the food did finally arrive, it was hot and appetising. There was far too many fried chips on the seafood platter for two, (it could have fed 3) and I would have preferred more grilled options, not just battered and fried.

The wait and bar staff seem friendly and efficient. The beer garden is quite extensive. Prices of meals and drinks were adequate. While the food is of slightly better quality than standard pub fare, the wait for the food is agonising slow.

Approximate cost: $30
