We boarded our Russian Blue male for eight weeks whilst travelling interstate.
Contact with [redacted personal identifier] was only sporadic over the boarding period, however we remained contactable throughout this time.
We requested our daughter visit the cattery during our cat's stay to check on him. She did this, and expressed concern to [redacted personal identifier] about the cat's demeanour and general condition, at which [redacted personal identifier] took offence.
He contacted us interstate to complain about aspects of the visit of my daughter, together her partner and child, to the cattery unrelated to the cat. We were told the cat was eating well and fine.
[redacted personal identifier] said my daughter would only be welcome to visit in future provided she changed her attitude and came alone, however efforts by her to contact [redacted personal identifier] to arrange a further visit were shunnedl.
When we spoke to our daughter her version of events was very different, and she repeated her concerns about the cat to us.
My wife and I returned to Perth a couple of weeks after these events, and after efforts to arrange a visit to the cattery on our way through to Mandurah were unsuccessful, we decided to move our cat to another cattery close to where we were staying.
On arrival at the cattery at the agreed time the following morning, we were met at the front of the property by [redacted personal identifier] with our pet in its cat box. After the briefest of exchanges, he turned and retreated into the cattery.
It was immediately apparent that our cat was in a poor state, so we took him to our vet for a check-up. Once out of the box, we saw he was scruffy, dirty, smelly, and when weighed found he had lost 1.3kg, or 20% of his bodyweight, in the eight weeks in the Ragtail Cattery.
The vet recommended a blood analysis. This revealed his red cell count was extremely low, and that his liver function was deteriorating, and considering his age, the future prospects for improvement were unlikely. We then took the sad decision to have him euthanised.
We are extremely critical of the fact that not once over the period of his residence in the cattery did [redacted personal identifier] express ANY concern to us that our cat might be unwell, or suggest his vet take a look at him. The poor physical appearance we were met with should have been immediately apparent to a professional cat carer and breeder.
Based on our experience, I would never recommend this [redacted personal identifier] business to anyone. ZERO STARS.
