Have you ever been ghosted by someone for a week only to be dumped via message? That’s what Abbiocco did to me less than 2 weeks out from my event. Dumped me
I’d tried to get in contact about 3 weeks before my event to speak to them (phone/zoom/in person) and confirm numbers, menu and arrangements. I emailed, messaged, phoned at various times, left voicemail messages.
I did get a wishy-washy message back saying they’ve had a rough few days and were looking to offer “drop off catering” rather than the food truck I'd booked and what were my thoughts. My thoughts.… kind of defeats the purpose of getting a caterer if you are dropping food off and I have to re-heat and serve to 25+ people myself?!?
I again messaged requesting to talk expressing my disappointment.
But despite booking them for my event and accepting their quote 4 months in advance, I was given the “it’s not you, it’s me (us)” break up line . Citing personal and business reasons, they dumped me via message at 12.36am(!) on a Monday morning.
Abbiocco were still fulfilling bookings for those who had paid a deposit, however I have it in writing from them 2 months before my event saying “We’d usually take a deposit to lock in the date but understand that this is a bit tricky to lock everything in with COVID rules constantly changing”. Whilst trying longingly to get in contact with them last week, I had offered to make a payment.
So, I’m a belle without a caterer for my ball. Dumped by Abbiocco less than 2 weeks from my event while they still see other people. I mean, they did provide details for another caterer but I’d checked them out initially 4 months ago and deemed them unsuitable.
My advice if you book anything with Abbiocco is to have a solid Plan B. I’m sure their food is great, but dealing with them may leave a bad taste in your mouth!
