My husband and I hired Alex to cater our anniversary party at Hall. We were initially impressed by the website, the description of the authentic wood-fired pizza and the positive reviews. However, this didn't turn out to be our experience on the night and I am utterly unable to recommend this company to anyone.

We were promised a wood-fired pizza oven, but what arrived on the night was a gas-fired oven. Alex claimed in his emails to me afterwards that this was due to the recent rains dampening his wood, but there was no notification given to us ahead of the event that he'd be sending a gas oven instead - so it felt like an empty excuse. It's also not the customer's problem that they don't store their wood somewhere dry.

The guy who turned up to man the oven was supposed to have an assistant, but apparently he called in sick last minute and no replacement was sent. So there was one chef trying to create and cook all the pizzas for a party of 70.

The gas oven then promptly broke down about 15 minutes into setting up the food service and there was an extensive delay in getting it repaired. Thankfully one of our guests was a mechanic and was able to help advise/troubleshoot on what to do to repair it.

We arranged for the pizza service to start at 7pm, but due to these issues with the oven and the staffing, there was not a steady stream of pizza for our guests until 8.30pm by which point everyone was increasingly hungry and cranky - we even considered calling in a takeaway order to rectify the situation.

We were exceedingly polite and understanding to the guy working on the night, but I sent an email to Alex the next day outlining our concerns and asking for a gesture of goodwill to mitigate the impact to our event. If this had been a sit-down meal from a catering company that was an hour and half late coming out, and one of the guests was in the kitchen helping the chef fix the oven, then anyone in our position would have been complaining!

Alex was rude and dismissive in his responses. He essentially agreed with the issues that I raised, but simply refused to offer a compensatory gesture. This company treats customers who come to them with legitimate feedback on the service they receive very poorly indeed.

Alex Catered my daughters 13th Birthday party - it was a huge success lots of happy girls and parents!!
We will be having him again for sure!!

Alex The Pizza Guy catered a function for us, the pizza was amazing and the service was fantastic. I would highly recommend.
