Walked out with a curly mullet. I booked a wet cut and diffuse.
Received a dry hack, wash and diffuse. There was no skill to Jenni’s cut and it shows on my end result.
She wasn’t rude to me but terribly rude to her staff in front of me - they looked miserable.
When it came time to pay, I was FLOORED that a dry cut (not style) was $165!!!!!
I will not be returning. And I’ll be warning my curly haired friends.

Approximate cost: $165

Impossible to contact. I tried email, Instagram and phone over four days. They simply don't respond. And when I finally got an email reply back, they told me I was "extremely rude" for criticizing how how they run their business.

Rude is treating customers like a nice to have, being unresponsive, unavailable and then berating people when they're exasperated just trying to get the information they need to make an appointment. I can only imagine what the in-person experience is.

And if you'd like a taste of that treatment, just look how aggressive the owner is respond to and abusing people who dare post anything other than positive reviews on Google. PASS.

Photoshops their Insta posts of the hair AND models (?!). When a young woman approached them about the company photoshopping her “after” results, Aoki posted on their INSTAGRAM insulting this woman, being transphobic, I’ve never seen anyone speak like this towards another person, let alone a business. This is why their Instagram is now private. It angers me beyond words that a business can get away with these sorts of things!

You know how they say the customer is always right? It's the opposite here.

Aoki Hair is unprofessional & customers are willing to overlook this as Perth has such small selection of curly hair specialists. They've been bullying clients that have negative experiences at the salon since 2014 and customers are willing to overlook this as Perth has such a small selection of curly hair specialists. I cannot fault [removed name] staff as they are lovely, however I wonder how they continue to work under her. I urge existing & potential clients to instead support salons that value and treat their customers with respect.

On Friday the 15th of April, the owner publicly shamed a 19 year old trans woman for her honest opinion on how heavily edited the photos are - including making fun of the client's identity.

The Google reviews have gone from 603 reviews go from 2.4 stars on Saturday morning to 269 with 4.4 stars today. They have reported all the negative reviews- you can see only a few of them remain. On Monday (18th April) there were 237 reviews and included tags were 'transphobia (22)' and 'bullying (20)'. Today both relate to only 7 reviews.

I've been to Aoki Hair 3x. Every time has been a nightmare trying to get in touch with them via email/phone. Their phone always has a busy tone. It's a luck of the draw as to whether they'll return your call or not - more the latter. Owner sometimes replies to emails.

I've managed to get appointments by calling multiple times and hoping I get through (which has been once so far) OR by dropping into the salon. I choose appointments off the cancellation list as they're always booked months ahead.

My last hair cut[removed name] cut my hair and took photos of me. When standing outside she moved the longer layers behind my shoulders and while taking the photo said: "don't stress, I'm going to EDIT the photo via my app anyway".

I didn't voice my concerns at the time, nor ask for my photo to not be taken. I knew the photos were heavily edited & knew what I was getting into - based on their Instagram page. As someone that barely wears makeup, I didn't find it ideal, but I was just pleased my curls looked better than before.

I asked for a copy of the receipt to be sent to me before I left. The lady wrote it down on a paper 'to do' list. This obviously doesn't get done as I didn't hear back from them. Followed it up myself via Instagram DMs a week later.

I've posted about this whole situation on my social media channels to warn my friends of Aoki Hair's unprofessional behaviour and poor management. Everyone agrees that they wouldn't support a business that is unable to respect their clients. It's sad that customers feel they need to subject themselves to such a low service standard as they feel their hair needs can't be met anywhere else.

I've personally decided I'm no longer going to support this business as it's not worth the effort and customers deserve to be treated better."

I would do everything that I can to recommend that you stay as far away from this business as possible; the business owner not only goes out of their way to attack and degrade people who leave a negative review, but she's openly transphobic and discriminates against people based on their gender identify.

Take your money elsewhere.

Responses on the low rating Google reviews can tell you all you need to know about this salons inability to receive criticism. The photos on Instagram are also heavily edited! I would suggest finding a different curly hair specialist

STAY AWAY - Curly hair people looking for a curly hairdresser protect your hair. I was looking for a hairdresser in Perth and found all these reviews about Aoki Hair. The top stylist hacked into one side of my hair and now I am missing a huge amount of hair. A heap of my hair was cut to chin level and there was just a few strands left long to just above my chest(20cm longer than the top layer). What I can’t comprehend is how this top layer (about 60% of my hair) was all cut at one length. It is the worst hair cut of my life. I’ve even had people comment on the poor cutting :/ it will take several years to grow back, I’m devastated. I contacted the hair dresser twice about how disappointed I was. I received one email, she didn’t offer an apology or even offer to attempt to fix the mistake... the stylist Jenni just said ‘good luck finding a new hair dresser.’ I contacted her again and she never got back to me. Don’t believe the reviews, I believe this salon is more about their marketing with curly hair cuts. I don’t know about their straight cuts but I highly recommend you STAY AWAY from this salon.

I was so happy I chose to visit Aoki for a restyle with Jenni. It is hands down the best hair cut I have ever had - I love it! I went from long hair to a short cut and felt completely safe in the expert hands of Jenni. The salon was welcoming and not pretentious like other places I have been to and I felt amazing walking out the door.
