DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. AUSTEC ELECTRICAL advertise themselves as affordable, experienced, quick and reliable air-conditioner repairers and we found nothing could be further from the truth. We rang Austec Electrical after our evaporative ducted air-conditioner suddenly stopped working and were able to make an appointment for the same day. The technician arrived several hours later than expected. He spent some time checking the system and conveyed that he was having a hard time trying to find out what was wrong with it. ALARM BELLS really started ringing when he asked how to operate the fan via the remote and when he was overheard on the phone telling someone he had no idea what was wrong. He advised us he had taken lots of photos, so his boss could figure out what the problem was, as he didn’t know. We were CHARGED $300 and he DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Five days later we received a quote for $2640 for replacement of the control unit and motor and ‘parts can take between 5-10 working days.’ Suspicious we were being RIPPED OFF we called another company. This guy arrived on the same day within the timeframe given and took 10 minutes to diagnose that the Control Box needed replacing. He had the part in his van and was able to repair the air-conditioner immediately at a cost of $860. The motor was working perfectly fine. This is the type of service one would expect from a professional and reliable repairer. In our opinion AUSTEC ELECTRICAL were DISHONEST in charging us for doing nothing and then providing a quote to replace the motor which was functioning perfectly. We wrote a letter of complaint about being overcharged for no service, but the manager refused to admit to any wrongdoing. BASED ON EXPERIENCE – WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AUSTEC ELECTRICAL
