Great range of middle eastern/greek pastries.
They are all fairly fresh, made with quality ingredients, and sold at a really good price - must be the economies of scale.
My favourite is the Basmah – with kafayfi pastry, clotted cream and syrup. It is crunchy, light, gently sweet and encloses creamy & foamy cream. Delicious.

The best quality middle eastern sweets in Melbourne, i love all type of sweets they have. During the month of Ramadan they get too busy that i miss out on my favorite sweets but other than that they always have plenty!

The setting is beautiful they have an outside area, inside and upstairs, there is always a place to sit.

Good reliable place to go for coffee and sweets after a dinner out or for a catch up. Good, smooth creamy coffee and a large range of sweets. they also have a gift range and wedding/baby shower/christening sweets. great place to go if you want to try some different desserts. My favourite is the bird's nest or semolina cake.

Approximate cost: $3.50 coffee, 1.50-onwards sweets

Balha's middle eastern nom noms are TDF. soooo good I get cravings and must go up for a box of treats. There are a plethora of middle eastern bakeries in the brunswick/coburg area, but after trying numerous, I still maintain Balha's are the tastiest.
HOWEVER...if service is of importance to you, look out. I've received some of the worst service here, sadly. In fact, on one occasion, when my sister was visiting Australia for the first time and I excitedly took her here..we were ignored completely. It was towards the end of the afternoon on a Sat or Sun (can't recall) and there were literally 20 workers floating around busily doing things. NO ONE bothered to servce us, nor let us know simply that they were no longer serving & were closing soon. We tried in vain to catch someone's eye - but being too polite and a bit stupidly shy, we weren't aggressive enough to even flag someone down to talk to us.
I stepped outside and looked at the hours on the door - sure enough, they were supposedly open for another hour. And, of course, the doors were wide open. Sooo...what gave that day, I don't know. Not wanting to serve little white chicks?
anyway, we left after 10 minutes of just standing there being ignored.
That said - I STILL go back, because the food is just worth it

I was craving baklava and stumbled across Balha's. Yummmmm! Delicious cashew baklava as well as other sticky middle eastern sweets. Very fresh and reasonably priced - around $20 per kilo. The only downside for me is that they don't serve middle-eastern coffee. In any case, we now have an addiction to cashew baklava in our house! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Approximate cost: $20 / kg

I went to Balha's Bakery after founding it on WOMOW and seeing the good reviews. It was a great experience . The presentation was very appealing including the friendly service and a variety of sweets. It was hard to make choice with so many good looking sweets. The staff helped in choosing the sweets by explaining . I ended up buying more then I intended to. I will definitely visit them again.

Their pastry are divine. This is the lebanese desserts house. I always buy in bulk which is more value for money. They have many varieties of pastry. You will never get sick of it. The owner is very friendly too.
