Don't often buy fish and chips, but looked up Reviews for good fish and chips shop and saw this rated very well. Went with the family pack.of 4 fish and large chips for $52. Oh the disappointment! All four of us took a couple of mouthfuls each of the fish and agreed we couldn't eat any more. Tasted dirty, strangely. So essentially paid $52 for chips for dinners. Don't recommend and will never, ever go back!

Had high hopes for Bernies from the Bay in Charnwood but unfortunately while the fish was reasonably fresh (not extremely fresh) the big let down was SOGGY BATTER.
It's really not that hard to get crispy batter every time that stays crisp.
1.Add some baking powder to your flour.
2.Don't over stir it.
3.Keep the batter super chilled.

We love the food form Bernie's, but there phone manner is less then desirable, Its great that they have fresh fish and everything tastes amazing we will always get our fish for there. Please guys work on your phone manner.

Great food but a little on the expensive side for what you get the last time I was in there I would like to see some decent Family deals.

Friendly prompt service at an easy to find location. Great fish and chips, I wouldnt go anywhere else.
Freshest oysters I've ever tasted and a delightful mix of cooked and uncooked gourmet seafood. Husband and wife team who are very friendly, courteous and helpful. Prices are far more competitive than those of seafood franchisees and supermarkets

They cook it all fresh for you so takes a little longer. but you can always order and then go to the supermarket and get those condiments you need. The sweet potato scallops are really nice and different. great for those Friday night fish and chips
It's a bit of a hidden treasure this place. Great fish and chips. A lot like Sydney fish shops. You'll pay a bit more than other Canberra fish shops but that's ok.
