Please don’t support this crooked bike store!

I called up on Friday 11/8 to check the price to get the nipples of one wheel (24 spoke) changed out. Received a quote for approx. $30 +Cost of nipples estimated around $2 per nipple.

Dropped off the wheel on Saturday, stripped of cassette, tyres and wheel tape (all that was required was changing nipples out) and made a point of double checking the quote of approx. $30+ parts. I also asked for a call back regarding a price to change out the bearings.

I received no communication all week, so I called up Friday and firstly was told they weren’t sure where my wheel was, after it was found I was told it was being brought back to the Norwood store from the city and I would get a call when it was returned. I asked for extra nipples to be added for spares and that my wife would pick them all up the next day.

Come 330pm Saturday I had received no contact yet again so I called up, once again was told wasn’t sure where my wheel, after they found it I was informed that they had performed a ‘wheel rebuild’ and I would be charged $168. $120 for labour and $48 for parts.

Obviously shocked at the difference, I questioned; had bearings been changed, spokes been changed, something other than what I asked for and was quoted for? No, and there is nothing we can do for you was the answer.

Of course my wife picked it up and received no extra nipples and upon inspection I have found that the wheel isn’t even true.

All I can do is make an impassioned plea that if you take your business to bicycle express please keep one hand on your wallet because you can be sure they’ll be trying to rob you!

Bought my husband's bike from here. The service was excellent. The staff have great knowledge of their products and give advice according to your needs. They also service the bikes on site. Very happy with them.

If you live in Adelaide and am serious about cycling, I'm sure you're already familiar with Bicycle Express. If not, they you have to check them out. I recently purchased my bike from them, and they stock a huge variety. If they don't have something that specifically suits your needs, then pick a frame and get it custom made like I did. Azzuri frame, Ksyrium Elite wheels, Ultegra SL groupset, you can choose whatever you like depending on your budget. They'll also gladly equip a cadence meter or any other do-dads you can think of. I recommend.
