Probably my favourite Japanese restaurant in Brisbane. The restaurant has a simple yet effective decor with a good atmosphere. The teppanyaki does not have the "song and dance" of other restaurants but is outstanding in flavour. The al-a-carte menu is very good, providing a wide variety of traditional Japanese meals. For me the stand out is the buffet style sukiyaki, top quality ingredients at an extremely affordable price.
I took my parents to Bishamon to celebrate a family event. To my surprise the rice was not cooked through. As a daily rice-eater, I know rice must be cooked fluffy and soft. I called upon the manager and asked her about the rice, and got the reply "Japanese rice are cooked this way". Well, having lived in Japan for many years and attended cooking class in Japan, I know the rice was not cooked through. At the end of the night, the rice was not charged from my bill. But I did not receive any apologies from the kitchen. I was happy with most of their food but I think they need to learn to accept criticism...
Approximate cost: $30
I cannot comment on the rice that you received but rice is very important to Japanese people and my wife always comments on how good the rice tastes at Bishamon.
Perhaps they have improved their rice cooking skill, or simply just had the rice cooker fixed. I'm all for good Japanese food so it's great to know their rice tastes good now.
Been coming to this restaurant for years and never been dissapointed. This is not your classical Japanese in terms of decor or atmosphere but this does not detract from the dining experience. The food quality is excellent and portions are generous. There is lots of seating available.
