Not recommended, worst chicken snitty I have ever had. Food cold, friend was vomiting overnight (spaghetti and meatballs). Toilets were not cleaned. Been going here for 20years but never again. Recommend you find another venue!

We're very disappointed with not the food but the way payment was conducted ,the money was collected at the end of the meal ,we were there for hubby's birthday and other family members decide to come along so instead of collecting payment at the start of the meal, people paid at the end ,so after our daughter paid for us as birthday present ,we decided to go home but nooo there was a deficit of $88 oops didn't see that coming ,so we just decided in order to avoid embarrassment we just paid it ,but after looking at the receipt when I got home pensioner meals didn't go through at the pension rate really feel like we've been had ,please people make anyone who decides to dine with you pay first ,unless you want to pick up the entire tab ,disappointed because hubby is a cancer patient and really didn't need the extra stress

The Blackburn hotel is one of the best for quality of service and food around the eastern suburbs. All of the staff there greeted us with a positive and friendly attitude. The meals are a little more pricey than most pub bistros but as mentioned, the meals are top notch.

I love this hotel. The food is wonderful and the service is great too. The seating also makes the atmosphere a great place, any night of the week

The Good old Blackburn Hotel (or Blackie as we use to call it). This place has been around a long time. Used to go here heaps of time when I was young and single and working in Nunawading.

A fantastic place to go. Atmosphere is great and the food is wonderful.

I went to the Blackburn Hotel last night simply because it was close and I remembered it fondly from years ago – I haven't been there in probably a decade or more. So aesthetically it looks like most other pubs, but boy is this place overpriced.

We ordered the chicken Kiev - $26 plus a pint $8.90 with a side order of fries ($5). There were no smiles from the staff, at best they were functional though some were simply indifferent and keen to finish for the day – understandable but this is a place of business.

The chicken came and it was simply a fillet cut down the middle with ham and cheese inside then crumbed and deep fried into oblivion. It was served on a bed of rice with a lump of garlic butter thrown on top which melted into it. There was a separate salad on the side. This chicken was extremely dry, overcooked – I got the impression that it was precooked and then thrown back into the fryer before being served. Chicken Kiev is comfort food typical of what you should find in a pub – it should ideally be very tender and when you cut into it, the butter should ooze out of the centre and serve as sauce to accompany the different textures.

If this was a standard pub meal at $15 I wouldn't bother making this post however it was $26 – I have been to restaurants right across Melbourne where $26 will get you a decent meal with table service and a professional helpful waiter and not a dried up piece of crap disguised as food.

Well let's just say that I didn't even bother to complain to them because quite simply I wouldn't ever consider eating there or indeed visiting there again even if it was free. If you are thinking of going for a quick pub meal around this area I would honestly suggest you avoid this place – the costs were totally out of proportion to quality of the food served. Bloody disgraceful place.

The meals here are your average pub meal. Tasty parma's and prawn stirfry. Can be very loud on a Friday and Saturday night. Service was average.

this place was all right for families though could improve in that area, although for adults it was a good place, the service was fairly good as well as the staff and the quailty of the food was all right.

Approximate cost: $20
