It was dark when we drove into Blinman SA looking for the caravan park. There were no signs so we went to the only place open - the pub and parked out the back which turned out to be the caravan park with a handful of powered sites. Went inside to pay, waited and waited going from reception to the bar and back to find someone to assist us. The caravan park is basically a construction site with building refuse spread about. The grounds must have been at some time the car park but having been driven over so many times by construction traffic the ground had been pounded into powdery grey dust - not your average outback stuff which would have been fine. The amenities, well the showers were a pay affair, I understand the need to conserve water and a timer would be fine for that but it seemed a convenient way to make money. They hadn't seen a mop or broom in a very long time either and needed some repair with the doors slamming open and shut during the night until I got up and jammed them shut with some conveniently place building refuse. The town or at least the pub and "caravan park" run off a generator as do many small and remote towns - it's a good way to solve the power problem HOWEVER placing the container sized diesel generator not more than 20 metres away from the caravan sites is bewildering, considering it could have been place behind a small hill not much further away decreasing the noise and annoyance given the thing ran loudly for the entire night. I am an experienced remote traveller and have been for many years and this place was a shocker. None of the "features" of the park were mentioned when we booked in, just our $20 fee taken. What a rip off. I understand that construction work was in progress but it would be nice to be told at the onset and perhaps a significant reduction in the fee would be appropriate given there is no other place to stay! It should be noted that the pub itself is very good with a great atmosphere and excellent food.
