I'm not a vegetarian but I was taken here by some vegan mates. I was blown away by how great the food was - I had a "steak sandwich" - it was very tasty - and came with heaps of salad. I left very satisfied and can't wait to go back.

Before we moved from Perth two years ago, my husband and I visited Melbourne and were very fortunate to eat at the fabulous Bowl of Soul. In fact this was the first vegan/vegetarian place we visited during our stay AND I have to say, it was probably the deciding factor in making the huge move over here.
As vegans, we were very impressed with the cosy premises, the outstanding quality of food on offer and the very friendly, sweet couple who run it.
There is a wide variety of some of the tastiest vegan food we have ever had the pleasure of tasting.
The various mock meat burgers are generous in size. In taste, they are of a very high standard and the sauces are to die for - we usually order a different one each and ask for a knife to cut them in half so that we can swap and sample the others delicious delight.
The lentil stew/casserole is an old family recipe and a trademark here and very highly recommended on a cold winters day/night. Served with crusty bread, it makes the taste buds sing and the soul sigh in contentment. It is truly a Bowl FOR the Soul.
The coffee is quality fair-trade and the soy flat whites are made with as much expertise as a fine barista, and they always taste consistently good. *Don't let anyone tell you that you can't make a decent coffee with soy milk, because this little lady produces a superb silky fine froth with a delicious, caramel crema every time.
There is a good selection of desserts to choose from. A special treat for me to have with my coffee are the tiny and moreish wild figs coated in dark chocolate and dusted with vanilla sugar - I defy anyone to stop at one.
We took our friends who were visiting from WA here for a meal. They are not vegan/vegetarian, but were very impressed with the standard of fare - they work in the food industry and could not fault the food, both being very satisfied with their meal. And they are fussy meat eaters!
We love the homely feeling we get when sitting inside on the comfy seats. It's like being in someone's kitchen having a friendly chat with them about anything and everything whilst they "whip up" our meal. They make you feel so welcome and like old friends. Their warmth and charm is a big part of Bowl of Soul.
Whenever we get the chance to drive over to Port Melbourne, we breathe a sigh of contentment knowing we will have a wonderful, casual, wholesome and delicious dining experience that is very much value for money and worth every cent!

Oh Nooooo. I am very, very sad to report that Bowl of Soul has closed!
Very disappointed and my soul weeps.
I know the gorgeous couple would have had a very good reason to close such a gem. I wish them all the very best in the future and hope that somehow, somewhere, they may venture forth with a new business when they are ready - one can but hope.

I can't wait to return. The girl behind the counter was just lovely. My partner and I ordered lunch and we both loved our meals. We both had burgers and they were massive. The food is fresh and well put together. I love the little take home meals they have too and the cakes are delicious :o) Well done!

If a vegetarian cafe can please a carnivore then they are doing ok! My hubby & I have gone there a few times for late brekky & really enjoy it. The staff are always warm & friendly & are happy to give advise on what to order. Our favorite is the mock "bacon & eggs" - I don't know how they do it but the tofu actually tastes a lot like bacon. The hot chocolate is definately recommended, especially on a cold day. However, like nearly anywhere around Bay St, parking is still an issue.

Delicious 'steak' sandwich, yum chocolate peanut butter brownie. I loved the satay chicken burger that I shared with pal. Great food, good service. I am looking forward to my next visit!

I get into this place for lunch as often as i can, if I can find a park. The food is great and the service is too. It's so nice to find somewhere with good, healthy, home cooked food that tastes so good too.

These guys make the best "mock meat" burgers and hot dogs I have had. The "mock meat" is extremely authentic. As well as the "mock meat", the burgers and hot dogs are filled with delicious condiments and fried onions and all the rest!

Approximate cost: $10
