A pretty decent cafe, with a lovely selection of cakes and snacks. I wasn't a fan of the coffee, though, which was a little disappointing. The cream they serve with the cakes was also a bit disappointing, so if I do return, I'll just go with the cakes, and perhaps a hot chocolate instead.

The staff is pretty friendly, and the food isn't bad, but the real allure of Cafe Essen is its wide range of coffees. Not types of drinks (they do all the regulars!), but actual types of coffee! I went years without realising this, so now I'm trying to make up for lost time- try a different coffee every time you're there! I recommend the Ethiopian blend!

This is exactly what I would expect from a basic cafe. It has decent food, decent service, and a decent price. It might not be anything special, but it's a lovely place to sit and people-watch in the heart of Canberra.

Every time I go here I cant go past the vegetarian lasagne. It is so good. Good coffee too!
Staff are always good,
Location is great and have the heaters on in Winter so you don't get cold!

Approximate cost: $Moderate.

I have ordered cheesecake from this shop. They have a variety of different cheesecakes - blueberry, plain and Mars bar. They are really pricey and I was expecting a lot from them. Unfortunately, they were just ordinary and lacked a depth of flavour (or richness). The service was slow and the waiter initially charged us incorrectly as well.

Heard this place is good for breakfast/desserts. I ordered the pancakes, which were decent, but not as nice (nor pricey) as Pancake Parlour's. Still, this is a nice bustling place to chill with friends as it opens late.

Approximate cost: $15

food is half-decent most of the time, but the drinks are great! Seriously, go for the coffees, teas and other beverages...

Atmosphere is great, food not so good. Coffee is always excellent though, and the owner is super friendly. Pancakes with bacon and maple syrup is the best meal on offer. Everyone loves an all day breakfast.
