Best Indian restaurant of all the ones I've tried in Melbourne so far. Don't forget to let the staff know your taste preference when you order.

Would have given 5 stars but recently they've given me food with too much onion! Aside from that great portion sizes, good price and such a lovely family business

I enjoyed this restaurant. My boyfriend and I have only been there once but found the staff to be friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious. We had appetisers, two different curries, bread etc. and found that the final bill was very reasonable, considering the outstanding quality of the food. I will be coming back!

The food here is absolutely delicious and the service is pretty good. There are af least four other indian resteraunts that are so much closer for me however they pale in comparison to cafe saffron. It can get a big noisy but who cares when the food is so dam good!

I tend to agree with Laureli. I have loved Cafe Saffron for many years and have often classified it to family and friends as the best indian food around. But the last few times we have ordered from them we have been disappointed. On the last occassion we had food delivered, it took around 1 1/2 hours because the driver got lost so it was cold by the time it got here. The two times prior to that we were given someone else's order so had to take it back and change it.
The food is really good, and I'm sure I will probably go back but hoping they pick up the service levels back to where they were.

I am sorry to say that my experience of Cafe Saffron has plummeted from what it was. They had always been a tried and trusted local Indian takeaway/home delivery and dine in restaurant.
The last 2 times i ordered home delivery, both in late 2010, the experience was less than gratifying. One was really just ordinary. If it had been the first time i had ordered from Saffron i wouldn't have bothered going back. But i had experienced otherwise so i gave them another shot.
The other shot was what bit the bullet for me. The delivery was extremely late (over 40 minutes late, approx. 1 1/2 hrs all up) and one of the meals was the wrong dish. When i rang to rectify the problem the staff weren't rude but they also weren't pleasant or apologetic. IMHO a simple sorry goes such a long way! The correct dish was brought back to us very promptly, although the dish itself suffered from this expediting. It was just not up to the past standard of Cafe Saffron :/ It was basically thrown together and cooked in such a hurry that flavour, care, and any interest in a good product was put aside. This dish was left uneaten save for a few bites. While I did appreciate the speed in which the dish was brought back to us i would have preferred a credit for my next order (which i did suggest initially) than the poor quality product i was brought.
So as i mentioned at the outset i am sad to say i will not be back to Cafe Saffron nor would i recommend them to anyone. I had many many lovely experiences in the past but an ordinary meal followed but a downright disappointing and unpleasant one just won't get me going back.

Cafe Saffron has for over the past 10 yrs managed to keep their standards incredibly high, its one of the best family run businesses around. What blows me away is their consistency, they deliver everytime!! There are too many suggestions to make re food selection, so just go there & try what you like, its so worth it!

We went here last night. The service was terrible, staff weren't very attentive. The food was good, my husband didnt really like his main but mine was fantastic, cant remember the name but it was lamb in a mango gravy - yummo.

Fine Indian dinning with friendly service and a lovely atmosphere, better book in advance is place is no secret to the locals. The food was excellent with a range of spiciness which would suit the whole family. The delightful sizzle as the food arrived on hot caste iron platters was awesome.

Approximate cost: $20

Fabulous food at a reasonable price, have been going here for years.
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly.
Again I would also advise a booking on most nights, and perhaps avoid Saturdays as it does get very busy and yes quite noisy.

Approximate cost: $18
