1 review about Canberra City Gateway Hotel

verified email - 08 Aug 2009

This hotel is an huge OH&S problem.
Tiles on entry floor are missing and is a major tripping hazard. The awning on the front of the hotel is near falling down. Paint peeling off it every where.
The car park is poorly lit. Only 2 lights on the hotel face the car park. The car park is also full of potholes and dead trees.
There are things that they may call gardens but seem like 10 years of being a smokers ashtray.
Elevator door shuts on you as you enter it. Cant hold the elevator for anyone. Elevator floor is filthy.
The foyer is dark and dingy. Very little lighting through out the foyer. Maybe to save on electricty.
The pool that is advertised on the website isn't available to swim in as it is filled up with top soil. Must be the burial ground of all the customers who complain!

Now to the rooms.
The beds are not moved to vacuum under them. Found old chips and wrappers there. Curtains are hanging on by a thread.
The bathroom had mould all over the shower tiles and the tiles that were suppose to be white were yellow. Mould on the back of the bathroom door with soap scum as well. Told them how many were staying and i still had to go to front desk to get towels for us. No extra toilet paper supplied. No hair dryer as advertised. No hand towel or face washer supplied. Tissue box falls off the wall in the bathroom. Shower curtain was full of mould. Windows were mouldy and dirty. Spider webs are every where in this hotel.
Don't know what their cleaners are doing when they are suppose to be cleaning. The cleaners do spray copious amounts of deodorizer in the rooms, probably to mask the smell of dirty, mouldy rooms.
Window didn't close properly and could here all the traffic plus we were freezing all night. No electric blankets supplied. Dirty spare blankets were found tossed into the cupboard. Not folded properly. Found extra pillows in the same cupboard but they still has the last customers DNA all over them. (Last customer must have been a dribbler and had lots of hair loss)
Large gap at the bottom of door to your room so you can hear everyone and everything that goes on in the hotel.
The TV was so snowy you were unable to wind down at night and relax.
We paid $99 for one night. It was a "Winter Special" normally $120
Staff did however not charge full price at breakfast due to small amount of food eaten by family members.
I do wonder why this place is still in business and how in the world it got a AAA rating!
I strongly recommend you sleep in your cars and save your money than sleep in this horrible place.

Approximate cost: $99
