My kids have done swimming lessons at the new leisureplex twice in the last 6 months, and although the quality of the Vac Swim program is brilliant and the CS (Centre Superviser) is fantastic and very helpful, the actual leisureplex pools aren't anything to rave about. In terms of cleanliness they aren't horrible, but we've seen bandaids floating around in the pools for the entire day, not being cleaned out, which was gross. And my 5-yr-old son has had the bottoms of both his big toes cut on the jets in the shallow pools on two separate occasions, which apparently had happened with quite a few little kids, and leads to a fair bit of a bloody mess around the pool area. However, the lifeguards are very prompt and helpful and have always done a great job of first aid and cleaning up. There are always 2-3 lifeguards on duty each time we've been there aswell, which was really good. The large swimming pools are great for lessons for the older kids, and there are also two smaller length pools for walking, which are well used by lots of people.
In terms of being a 'fun' swimming pools to visit with your kids during the holidays if you're not going for swimming lessons, I wouldn't really recommend Cannington Leisureplex. They have one waterslide, which is good for the older kids who like a pitch-black slide, but there is really nothing inside that provides any interest for youngsters. The 'little kids' shallow pool has no slides, no equipment to climb on, just one bright red shower-type structure that only occasionally has been turned on. There is an outside play area for young kids which is basially like running through sprinklers, but there is absolutely no shade out there and it's quite surprising that there's not even a shade sail, considering the chance of being sunburnt in the Perth sun is very high! Anyway, swimming lessons are great, but in my opinion the pools themselves aren't worth a visit. The cost for us to do lessons including pool entry for 2 weeks was $100. I thought $33 entry pass for each of my boys and $16 for me to sit and watch was heaps. At least the Vac Swim program is cheap at only $10!
