Cataract Bistro has really set the standard for dining in Launceston. I had heard mixed reviews from friends but most agreed the food was exceptional.
The staff are all presented well, enthusiastic and well educated in the menu and wine list.
The food is amazing, it has you salivating from the minute you walk in the door. It smells amazing but tastes even better and you can taste the freshness of the produce

I loved this place. On our recent trip to Tassie, this was one of the places Hubby & I ate in & it was faultless...absolutely faultless. It started from the moment we stepped inside & were greeted by our lovely waitress for the night, Kaitlyn. This was matched by the fantastic meals on offer & the simple but groovy, almost-industrial feel of the decor.
We started with a crab salad for Hubby & mushroom cap entrees for me, which were really impressive & followed with a trevalla main for hubby, & I had a dish of local Cressy lamb, which was ironic, because we'd literlally visited Cressy earlier that day for spot of trout fishing, but didn't catch anything, & that's how we came to be at this restaurant to begin with.
We finished with the best desserts; warm lime & coconut pudding with coconut ice-cream, & I had this fantastic raspberry, pistachio & white chocolate semi freddo that came with the dreamiest persian fairy floss.
If ever we get to Launceston again, this will definitely be one of our first choices for dinner or lunch again.

Approximate cost: $25-30
