Everyone needs to help this place out!
They're not doing too well with customer numbers and if business doesn't improve, they're likely to shut shop.

I went recently with a Scoopon for the Chinese buffet with a bottle of wine. We weren't expecting anything spectacular. But OMG!!! Portion sizes were huge and the taste was excellent. We most enjoyed the sweet and sour pork. They did a good fried rice to accompany it.

We had bought take away from here back in February and thought it was pretty good but we scored a dine in voucher for $35 for 3 courses, so decided to give the "sit in" menu a try.The sign out the front says Ünder New Management" and the meals we received certainly tasted better than our February experience.The entree's we chose were the house made Chicken Dim Sims, that had been fried and a serve of chicken satay sticks. Both were very tasty.For the mains, we chose Sizzling Pepper Beef and the Satay Beef, served with plain rice. They were both superb. Piping hot and delicious.We each got a scoop of ice cream to share - Unusual flavours of "Green Tea" and "Black Sesame". They weren't very sweet but quite nice all the same.The voucher included a full bottle of wine to share.All in all, a very nice meal and friendly service. Being a Sunday night, there was plenty of parking and no waiting for service- PERFECT! Will definitely be back!

Tried this place for the 1st time tonight, using a "Living Social" voucher for a Take Away deal.
It was $57 for 4 Entree's , 4 Mains, 4 Fried Rice and 4 Cans of Drink. The only exclusions were Duck and Seafood.
We thought this was very good value.

We picked 2 Chicken Satay and 2 Dim Sims for the entrée and 2 Sizzling Beef plus a Kung Pao Chicken and Beef for the mains.

All the dishes were very tasty and enjoyable.

I did order a Choy Sum plus some Mixed Vegetables and another Fried Rice, which I paid the extra for. Was told that it would cost $38.80. I stated that the online price was $31.80, so the lovely man changed it to the cheaper price - very nice of him!!

Although the vegetables were very nice, the serving size was quite small (only 1/2 a container) - so worked out to be quite expensive.

In fact, all the meal prices were higher than other shops (about $1 - $2 per dish) but that may be because Hyde Park is a "well to do" area and their rent might be in a higher bracket?

I phoned my order through and it was ready on time for pick up, so the Service was good.

It was a very enjoyable Valentines day dinner for myself and my partner. With the voucher, it was also great value.

Being that I had to drive almost 15 minutes to get there, I probably wouldn't use again.
(No reflection on the shop assistant or the food, just on the convenience of getting there).

Chao Shan is a new Chinese restaurant located in the heart of King William Streets shopping district. Although the shop is very small (as are most in that part of King William), it is very well presented, and the staff are friendly. Unlike a lot of Chinese restaurants, the menu is relatively small, but they do have a wonderful variety. One of my favorite dishes is the 'Chao Shan special deep fried bean curd', absolutely delicious! Their vegetarian menu is lacking a little (comprising of just three dishes), but my partner really enjoyed the 'string bean in peking sauce' dish. Prices are relatively expensive (probably to keep up with the rent in that area), but meals are delicious and service is good.

Approximate cost: $14
