Chinese Palace Restaurant, A good dining experience. The restaurant was a bit old and dark. Great staff, mouth watering food, one of my favourite places
I have been eating at this restaurant for twenty years as I live in Glenorchy. It has been a feature of the area since the 1950s. Same family. Food is excellent, service is great. There banquets are such value for money. Not long ago it got a paint job which it badly needed. If it did a proper renovation, it would be 4 star restaurant I believe. Takeaway section is also exceptional. They give free soup! I suggest that the review further below by anonymouss is probably from the owners of China Diner which has to have the worst food in Hobart.
A good dining experience. The restaurant was a bit old and dark, plus the regular chef was away. The food was alright, but probably better with the other chef. The service was amazing. We had a long talk with the people there, plus the owner told me that I should marry his son! Hmm. Great experience, wish there was better food.
Avoid. China Diner is much better and cheaper! I had the pork in plum sauce, singapore noodles (egg) and chicken & corn soup. Everything was extremely salty yet tasteless so I suspect it's full of MSG.
Wow! That's the first time I've ever heard China Diner described as better than anything - sounds like you've had a poor experience at Chinese Palace
stopped here for takeaway food, extensive menu, over 100 items to choose from! Great staff, mouth watering food, one of my favourite places. Have dined here several times, myself and my friends just love the banquets and dine here as often as possible.
This was a good dining experience. I had a beef dish which was good. There was something for everyone in the family. The meals are also reasonably priced - they even once had a dinner for 4 for $55. The people were friendly and we had a lovely conversation with the owner.
A great little takeaway gem! They have a wide range on there menu and I defiantly recommend their sweet and sour chicken!
This place is a little bit hard to describe. I have only used the Takeaway arm of the Restaurant so I'd be interested to hear any experiences from those who have dined in.
On first impressions, the takeaway shop (attached to the side of the main restaurant) looks as dodgy as a naked man doing push ups in long grass. The place looks almost like an afterthought.
Still, I fancied Chinese Takeaway and it was close by so I decided to take a chance. Based on the number of customers coming and going in the time I was waiting for my order, I was optimistic for a good feed. What added to this, was that several of them seemed to be regulars. What detracted slightly, was that some of them were there to buy fireworks rather than food, but I digress.
When I use them next (and I will) I'll be phoning ahead to place the order first as it took a while to get my order. The quality, however, was worth the wait. I went for honey chicken and my wife wanted chicken & black bean, and both were excellent. As were the mini spring rolls and spiced chicken wings. Even the free soup (for orders over $16) was quite tasty.
