I can't believe this place is only a 6-7 minute train ride from Flinders Station, what a steal.

The Claremont Guest house is great. It is clean, nicely organised, with a beautiful sweeping staircase leading up to basic, comfortable rooms which share bathroom ameinities. The rooms are very simple - a small tv (the size of a computer monitor), a table, and a little shelving unit. The walls between hallway and your room must be thin, because the sound of the hallway echoes through the room, giving one the feeling that any sound you make will be heard by those in the hallway. But the sound does not travel through rooms, and besides from the occasional, intermittent hallway noise the rooms are peaceful and quiet, with nice high ceilings and fresh white paint, and beds that are super clean and SO COMFORTABLE! The free breakfast is toast, cereal and tinned fruit - but if you are on a budget it is a godsend.

All in all, the hotel is amazing for the price. I have previously rented rooms in backpackers hostels which are NOWHERE near as clean or accomodating, and filled with loud, drunken guests who take up all the space and peace. This experience was the complete opposite! From now on, whenever I stay in Melbourne, I will be staying at the Claremont Guest House - if they have a free reservation, because they're super popular, and I can see why!
