Today I watched a woman get refused TAKEAWAY service from the cafe due to vaccination status. She was trying to buy a drink for her toddler. The woman behind the counter was hostile and the customer left visibly upset, with a crying toddler. Shameful.

I've always been very satisfied with Dawsons on all counts whether it be up in Forrestfield or closer to home in O'Connor. But on my last visit I was particularly lucky to be directed to Kerry for advice on the remodelling of a small rose garden, the layout of which was becoming rather a nightmare. It was sheer delight to talk to this knowledgeable person and to get her in-depth and expert advice on selection and palette. Very many thanks and I look forward to posting a springtime photo of the result.

I would like to have given this business 5 stars and I would have for the great variety of quality plants and advice given but the cafe and toilets let them down badly. The cafe is average, mostly good food wise although sometimes the cakes can be rather dry, do not taste fresh. Coffee’s and tea’s are good but service is not so good with long waits for our order to come. Sometimes a long gap between drinks and food. Not a smile to be seen, the staff seem under too much pressure.
The toilets are pretty awful. The seats and bowls are clean but the building is falling apart with rotting door frames and doors, generally poorly maintained. Although I have been buying plants there regularly for years, I and my friend will not in future use the cafe or toilets. Very disappointing as it wouldn’t take much to fix.

The first time I visited Dawsons Garden, I spent at least 2 hours, wowed with the numerous selections of plants! The roses section is spectacular, the choices are overwhelming - from a bush rose, climbing roses, trained shrub roses! They also have a great variety of fruit trees, both dwarf and standard. What more, there is a cafe in the middle of the garden paradise! Definitely a must-see garden!

Approximate cost: $25
