If you are just reviewing the service or the food, this place only gets a 2.7 or a 3. But Degraves is a Melbourne institution, and apparently has totally perfect coffee.

I love sitting here, rain, hail or shine, and people watching and enjoying the experience of sitting amongst the bustle and hubbub of Melbourne.

It's such an excellent experience, I wholly recommend it for coffee and tea.

although staff are genuinely nice and friendly, i asked for some water and it took a long time to get it so had to ask multiple staff members until i had water

the place is a bit cramped, but quite homely and more cozy, so it could work for more intimate and relaxed conversations with friends

their $11 pumpkin soup was VERY filling, served in a huge bowl - i don't think i've had a bigger serving of soup!

My brother and I decided to grab a quick coffee (take away) last friday, so we thought of Degrave st. Well, me and my brother have our few favourite restaurants on that street. However, on that day we decided to try new cafe on that st.

It was my first time to grab a coffee here, but seriously the minute i walked into that cafe.. it wasnt pleasant at all (as in the service). the staff was rude and unfriendly .. but my brother asked me to be patient.. so we ordered our coffee and it took more than 15 - 20 mins to get our coffee. Honestly, the coffee was just Ok. I dont think i would be back.

Had lunch here with a group from work. Lovely little place that is crowded at lunch. Great coffee and wait staff were friendly but a bit slow. Ok for take-away coffee and casual lunch but not very special.

pretty ordinary if you're only there for a casual visit

I usually only just come here for coffee on the way to work, but the coffee is always perfect. Service for take-away is pretty good, however if you're sitting down and eating you can expect to wait a while as the staff are pretty casual and take their time. Sitting outside on a rainy day isn't super pleasant and can be a bit cramped.

Great little cafe located on Degraves St. Their menu is written on a black board outside the door so it's really great if you're not sure of which cafe to try on Degraves. I went here with a friend for brekky and had the bagel with salmon, baby rocket, red onions, capers and cream cheese. It was absolutely delicious and very filling!

Nothing really positive to say about the service though. The staff were friendly but very casual and enjoyed chatting to their friends a little too much.

We were also sitting outside, which was fine because the sun was shining, but that meant we were surrounded by a few smokers - not the kind of atmosphere I enjoy when I'm eating. So if you have an issue with this, maybe request a seat inside.

Food and coffee was great, reasonably priced and though the service could improve, I'll still recommend this cafe if you're looking for a brekky place in the CBD.

Approximate cost: $12

Great little cafe in Degraves Lane, with old Theatre seating, internet friendly, great food and coffee, a must to visit.
