When we first contacted Dickens Manor, they stated that they would prepared sample dishes for us to taste to decide what items we would want to choose off their menu. After we made the booking and paid our deposit, this all changed. They did not have time to prepared the food for this week or we would make an appointment for the tasting only to come in to the venue to find our the chef was sick etc etc. After we finalized the numbers for the event, they claimed that we did not meet to minimum number of guests (even though we did, children, photographers and band members do not count as guests) so they charged us for 10 people extra people that did not exist on the final request for payment, which was more than we had agreed upon initially (which was 65)! When I contacted them about this , they simply stated that if you are unhappy about it just cancel your booking (which would have caused us to lose our deposit). After doing a little research I found out that there had been several complaints about the billing practices through Comsumers Affairs Victoria. I also found out that they are a husband and wife that run the venue and the husband is a lawyer who has worded the contract specifically so that they can add extra charges "legally" despite the intial consultation with the couple. I suggest you find a different venue.

Approximate cost: $20,000
